Re: All members, please come in & introduce youselves
Hi,

Was looking for a replacement for my Timex watch. Before my purchase, I was considering either an kinetic or eco-drive as a battery-free replacement for quartz and did a bit of research on seiko and citizen. Couldn't find too much info on citizen, but did come across this forum and a whole lot of stuff on seiko watches.

Got hooked and eventually brought a SKX007J as my first automatic. Loving it the SKX007J, expect that it is going at -5s per day, so now looking at something with higher accuracy...

Recently brought a Casio GWM850-1CR (atomic solar GShock) to tilt me over while deciding what's next in my purchase list

Hello everyone,

Just joined up. Interesting and cosy place here.

Once I wanted to collect all Seiko vinatge divers, but has abandoned that project. Very laid back now and no fixed direction.

Alternate a black Sumo with a Pam for daily beater.

My fav are my 62MAS and Tuna 6159.

Thanks for the great effort in setting up this forum, I was a occassional lurker from the hardwarezone days.

Cheers
Re: All members, please come in & introduce youselves

Welcome welcome.... just curious, how's the Seiko pricing compared from Indonesia and Singapore ?

As my MM300 came from Jakarta Seiko showroom. ;)
Re: All members, please come in & introduce youselves
MM300 in Seiko Jkt showroom, you're definitely in luck.. Whenever an MM300 got into the showroom, they usually never made it to the display.. Showroom attendants usually call guys on their waiting list and they'd be gone like that :) These very same guys then re-sale them at a premium (of course). So, price wise for your MM300, should be pretty competitive in indonesia.

As for other seiko models in general, I'd still rather head to a certain watch store at 2nd level people's park complex to secure my piece (so much for nationalism there). Correct me if I'm wrong: MM300's prices is not too friendly in s'pore ? :)
Re: All members, please come in & introduce youselves
That's interesting, no wonder we have Indo MM300 sellers here. E.g: http://forums.seikoclubsg.com/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=1254" false;
Re: All members, please come in & introduce youselves
I've not been in the "watch-game" for too long but here's what i learnt so far:

- you can pop into a rolex AD in swiss looking for a great deal on that rolex submariner 116610 (it's made in swiss, must be cheaper there right ?) the salesperson then quote a price that's, after factoring in tax refund and exchange rates, more expensive then acquiring them in sg..

Lesson: they don't call sg as the swiss of southeast asia for nothing, i find jlc cheaper in sg than swiss :D

- you could spend a month or 3, looking for the perfect 6105, then an opportunity to own a pristine original dial 6309 pops up..

Then you're now ready to spend another month or 3, looking for the perfect 6306, an opportunity to own an all original 6105 NOS turns up..

Lesson: we never choose the watches, they chose us (i know, very jedi kinda thing, hahahaha)

Re: All members, please come in & introduce youselves
Yea, you are right, they will come to you naturally...
Re: All members, please come in & introduce youselves
I have been collecting watches for 31 years now but have only in the last 6 weeks discovered the fascinating world of vintage Seikos. After beginning with a few modern Seikos (Velatura Kinetic Direct Dive, 200M SKX781, 5 Sports SKZ317K1, 5 Mile Marker, SNZG31), I bought my first vintage a 6309-7290 with orange dial. I was hooked and in quick succession acquired a: 6309-7040, 6105-8110, 6306-7001, UFO, 6139-7100 Black Helmet, couple of William Pogues, a couple of bullheads and my favourite, the 6138-7000 Calculator/Slide Rule... and I am just getting started. BTW, It was by chance that I discovered the Seiko Club Singapore. I was checking up a 'SEIKO SINGAPORE 7S25' (can't find anything about it) I found on ebay and came across the SCS link.

Your forum seems a very warm, friendly place and I am delighted to join up. Can't wait till I get my 25 posts to qualify to buy the many goodies I see in your 'Buy/Sell Watches' section. Cheers.

And a big welcome to you... :)

Thanks very much. Being a dinosaur, I shall get my daughter to take and load a few photos. Just closing a deal on a Samura SNM011 and a 6217-8001, which will be very nice to get.

Thanks... but it gets dark pretty early in winter and by the time I get back, it's pitch black. Shall do so with my next batch over a weekend.
Re: All members, please come in & introduce youselves
Hi all,

I'm brand new here, but have lurked on WUS for years.

I don't collect watches, but am always on the lookout for a better watch.

My tastes are for practicality, readability, 24/7 wearability, accuracy, no "luxury brands".

This means:

1) quartz movement (preferably with better accuracy than "normal" quartz)

2) solar powered or >6year battery

3) "100m WR" or better

4) do not like chronograph subdials

5) "perpetual" calendar, i.e. programmed for months and leap years

6) day and date display in "windows" or via LCD. (do not like the windows that show 3 dates)

7) Not too bulky. Preferably <11mm thick, <42mm width exclude crown.

8) sapphire crystal

9) big lume on hands and hour markers, OR tritium tubes, OR electroluminescence "indiglo" (with solar power).

My current watch is a Seiko SBQJ015, photos: http://imgur.com/a/8DQ8w" false;

I welcome any suggestions.

Wow thanks!

Are there any that are less chunky?

The Alpinist is close in terms of shape/size, but no lume on the hour markers, and has useless compass markings.

there should be other perpetuals

but imo, seiko do not really have nice dress perpetuals

too plain for my likings ;)

How about other brands?

I do like the shape of the Citizen Atessa ATV53-2834.

I like the streamlined buttons and crown on the right-side of the case.

The big hands look GREAT.

Just remove the subdials, and I want the LCDs to simply show DAY and DATE (I don't really need MONTH).
