Wow. The Seiko Sumo in real life is jin chio.

Wow. The Seiko Sumo in real life is jin chio.
I was looking at the pictures here and at watchuseek on the seiko sumo. Decided to order one from last thusday Higuchi and received it today. Higuchi is really fast and reliable, still gave me a handmade Japanese style card. :D

The watch in real life is jin chio, workmanship almost on par with the Sinn U1 which I failed to buy back in year 2006. Back then the Sinn U1 was only $1800. But this Sumo is also chio and even cheaper.

It change my perception of Seiko liao. I use to buy those Seiko 5 and it gave me the impression that they are budget watch because of the normal finishing. They are good but not as fine as the Sumo. Now I got a very nice dive watch liao.

Poisoning starts now.. :)

Seiko is 100% in house so that is also something to consider..

Wear it in good health!
Re: Wow. The Seiko Sumo in real life is jin chio.
I did'nt know JDM version of seiko so chio one. Bracelet and case finishing is different from our local K models.

Re: Wow. The Seiko Sumo in real life is jin chio.
RRP is just under 3K. Like you I was awed by the Sumo until I came across the mm300. I totally drop the idea of sumo and started saving for the mm300. It's has got this vintage elagence diver/tool watch look n feel. It's its got a GS movement + GS quality.
Re: Wow. The Seiko Sumo in real life is jin chio.
The MM300 is a good buy. Drop the sumo :)

Agree skip the mm300 and go straight for a GS. Finishing is a whole lot better.
Re: Wow. The Seiko Sumo in real life is jin chio.
in terms of finishing, no other seiko range can beat the GS. That's for sure.

But i feel every Seiko fan should own or have atleast owned the MM300.

MM300 is an iconic diver in the seiko lineup and has its place in the Seiko dive watch line.

For one, a bro kindly observed that its the ONLY current production Seiko 300m saturation diver with a mechanical movement.

It is a classic and always will be a classic.

it does depend on what you look for in a watch when you are buying.
Re: Wow. The Seiko Sumo in real life is jin chio.
Mm300 is gd for its price too.

Where to find.

Re: Wow. The Seiko Sumo in real life is jin chio.
Totally agree.

If it's a diver that you seek.

MM300 is top notch in terms on bulit and movement.

If you are heading towards the dressier direction.

GS would be a fine choice.

But based on versatility, formal, informal, MM300 is IT.

agreed a saturation diver without the use of HEV and is a one-piece case for that price is really vfm!

(although the mm300 clasp is a scratch magnet and the dull finish and quality could be improved... nevertheless the ratcheting dive extension is great)

Quite a few bros have mm. Perhaps ask to molest it.

Had 2 before and flip both. Likely will still own one again..

It sit high and top heavy for ss watch other than that I think it is definitely a Seiko watch for keeper. Finishing and feeling of the watch is good enough to beat sumo hand down.

Buyer market price drop below 2k..
Re: Wow. The Seiko Sumo in real life is jin chio.
wow bro emperor. how come you flip the same watch twice? like that is wasting money.

But the sumo build quality is also not too lousy also leh.
Re: Wow. The Seiko Sumo in real life is jin chio.
I am worried about the weight of MM300. I still prefer titanium material and Casio.

Hard to explain.. Flip to get other watch..

I like titanium watch currently.. SS feel heavy to me..

Sumo is my first Seiko. It is nice never say it is not..

I like to slowly appreciate seiko and that the fun of it..

Straight away enter into GS it is like nothing left to play with..

Every watch requires servicing becoz of wear & tear and things just don't last forever.

SD is a 10year old technology and its probably not really long enough to observe any long term issues.

Being 10 years old also means that there are not many early teething problems usually faced with "new technology"

imho

at the end of the day, SD is not a pure mechanical watch, so its not a big appeal for the purist collectors.

however, if you like the different technology and variety in you collection, it could be worth considering.

to each his own.

Joking aside, listen to the voice of reason (there are some here luckily) Lock in on your target, set your budget, do some research.. don't evertything also you like and want..neber finish one.

Anyway, Happy Hunting..

If it's very small and on the underside, it's probably not a big issue unless u r super fussy.

Even so, u ordered fm overseas so might be a small hassle to exchange.

So.... U weigh up and make the best decision.

Actually after much research and molestation of mm300, I personally feel it isn't worth paying 2,300 to 2,500 for. This price range really got quite a few other divers that I feel are equally good or better, perhaps it's because i have absolutely no brand loyalty of any sort. For Seiko I think I am happy messing around with the Seiko 5, Seiko superior divers, sarb dressy watches and prospex divers like sumo and quartz tuna. If I want to spend more I will whack a grand Seiko which really impressed me when I molested a few.

Yup, 2.2 can get mostly at 2.5.. Big Time is good if you wanna see actual piece and have good service. Depends o what you value, absolute price or packaged price including service, etc..
