Me too actually thought of getting a Sumo first in the end, still gotta a MM, IMHO, I think its a must for divers die hard fan to get both, if pocket is deep enough, try to make it a complete set by getting a Shogun too.. ;)

Somehow the Sumo bracelet is really a scratch magnet on the side (shiny part). I just sized the bracelet and already got some time scratches on the side liao. I rest the bracelet on paper in order to push back the pin and collar. Even paper can scratched the side. :roll:

correct me if i am wrong, but at the time of release of the SBDX001, Seiko did not have the manufacturing capabilities to manufacture a thin enough sapphire glass that could withstand 300m for the MM300 (which is without a HEV). So they have stuck with what they know best which is Hardlex.
Seiko only started releasing watches with sapphire not so long ago. In dress watches, because they did not require such a thick sapp xtal.
I read this in an interview with a well known Seiko watch tech. I just cant find that article anymore :(

But I think at that price, you will be hard press to fimd one with an in house movement.. Even those with modified ETA movements will not be easy to get at the price.
I am not loyal to Seiko per se but find the whole thing about its quality and in house movements intriguing so I spent my budget on watch buying this year on them. I must say I am happy as I got 5 pieces instead of the usual one. And 5 of very good quality with different movements. So I am a happy camper for a while..

Based on experience only, it depends on what kind of service.
Cleaning + overhaul of course might reach 1K++.
Minimum you will spend maybe $500. Example my PANERAI PAM111, I paid $500 when the winding mechanism broke. When it broke the second time, it was FOC.
For my SINN ST-142, same, $500 when I had the screw-down crown repaired. These were like 4 years ago. With the rate of inflation nowadays, who knows how much it will cost?
Basic services like cleaning and oiling maybe minimum of $300.
Congrats on your new SUMO by the way. I have been eyeing it for a while and also the SAMURAI but...nah. Not at the moment.
Content with my collection of vintages (a 6105, a couple of 6309s & a 7002) and my grail tuna -- The Emperor. I flipped my Luminor Base for it.
MM300 doesn't appeal to me but I agree with Bro Ivan, for $500 I will get it for sure. GS -- nope, too small for me. GS diver -- nope, I feel is too expensive.
The Emperor got 8L35 engine, titanium shroud, hex screws and sapphire crystal with all black casing @ 52mm diameter and 17mm thick -- macho!!!
Oh, and also, I don't think SUMO got "K" model. From what I understand, SUMO is JDM all the way and is under the PROSPEX line. I have never heard of PROSPEX with K model. Please correct me if I am mistaken.
On a final note, Mr. Goh of K2 may be able to service the MM300. I understand he can do also 6159 vintage tuna. Do check with him. Otherwise, make a trip to Thong Sia in Kallang Avenue.

My PAM and I admit is the cheapest among the PANERAI line, it is the PAM111 and is hand windable. I am not into very expensive PAMs like those power reserves, submersibles or GMTs. I am content with a basic PAM as long as it is not a fake. I am content with my collection of Seikos and Swiss and is really not my business if anybody's watch is more worth or expensive than what I have. 8-)

MM300 doesn't appeal to me but I agree with Bro Ivan, for $500 I will get it for sure. GS -- nope, too small for me. GS diver -- nope, I feel is too expensive.
The Emperor got 8L35 engine, titanium shroud, hex screws and sapphire crystal with all black casing @ 52mm diameter and 17mm thick -- macho!!!
Oh, and also, I don't think SUMO got "K" model. From what I understand, SUMO is JDM all the way and is under the PROSPEX line. I have never heard of PROSPEX with K model. Please correct me if I am mistaken.
On a final note, Mr. Goh of K2 may be able to service the MM300. I understand he can do also 6159 vintage tuna. Do check with him. Otherwise, make a trip to Thong Sia in Kallang Avenue.

After that in 2011 I heard that servicing a rolex cost 1k per shot. I stopped buying new rolex dueto the high servicing cost.
The mm300 also need $900 to service? If watch cost $2.5k and servicing cost $900. Then cost of ownership is even higher than rolex liao.

I dont remember the servicing fee is so high. I dont wanna mislead pple again. In case all the PANERAI come out again. The price is a few blue notes nia if I remember correctly when I send to K2 for servicing. Anyway, I usually send ah goh ard XX watches to service.

Normal wear and tear and service every few yrs is not that ex unless u talking abt replacement of parts.

If you wanna factor this and favtor that. And must die die service TS.
Then, I suggest you can consider just buy 1 and only watch.
Buy the 1 that u really really really like and no matter what fee TS or RSC charge, u still happily buy.

My PAM and I admit is the cheapest among the PANERAI line, it is the PAM111 and is hand windable. I am not into very expensive PAMs like those power reserves, submersibles or GMTs. I am content with my collection of Seikos and Swiss and is really not my business if anybody's watch is more worth or expensive than what I have. 8-)

You send your PAM to K2 for servicing, of course is cheaper. But don't get me wrong and don't be "mislead" :mrgreen: , because I meant it in a good way.
Mr. Goh of K2 is very good in what he do. I sent to him my Fortis Chrono and only charged me $160 for overhaul and reset the stopwatch hand to 0, imagine if I sent it to Fortis AD, like what I did with my PAM! :o
I went to Richmont for repairs and cost me $500, but like what I said, the second time it broke, Richmont never charge me anymore, it was FOC.
I think that was in 2005, and since then no repairs was needed for my PANERAI, nor my FORTIS and SINN. So the money I paid for was, IMHO, worth it.
For my SEIKOs, last one that went in to Mr. Goh was my 6105. Overhaul + repair of the hacking feature and repair of the turn-lock crown = $150. Even valuated the worth of my 6105 which I bought for $500++ some few years back without hacking and cannot lock the crown. But of course, I not letting go! :lol:
Cost of normal wear & tear service every, say, 5 years may not be that expensive, but depends where the watch will be serviced. AD I think cost more than JW or K2.
