haha no lah never in my thought about 4s14/25/35 dress watches and 4s77 credor isnt my taste lor. I'm not a 'going to complete set' guy ..whatever appeals and affordable to me at the point of time,then I will keep.

I have always like the 3 x 4sxx only.... SUS military(subsitute by SUS military quartz now),SUS GMT,4S15 Alpinist Diver



if ever I got the money to spend and if its at good price,probably 4S15 SUS military. 4s15 Alpinist(not so sure )

long time surfaced riao lah..in fact all my watches will gpgt one.. least 90-95%..

brought those 4Sxx to the last SCS gathering at CSC mah... GPGT in SCS threads and Yeoman blog before...

trio of WWII military watches for British Army. two black dial WWWs(Timor,Record) are from early 40's while smaller 'record' is from late 30s.

Finally got myself my first watchbox,just in time for this coming event. I figure it be easier to shift arrangement around the house too..instead of lying around in a cabinet. nothing really new...still e same collection.











not sure if I need another box(wabi watches need watchbox slot?)

when I bought it,I take it as it isnt original as the clasp piece has the 'SQ' logo instead of plain 'SEIKO'. However,there is one SCWF collector's watch with same BoR bracelet ...

Olympic 2012....

I've been watching some of those games on TV.. and in spirit of the 2012 London Olympics, took some quick pics of 3 of my Vintage Seikos on this nice day in remembrance of the 1964 Japan Tokyo Olympics. It was the first time Japan participated in the Olympics and was the honourable organising country esp after WWII. 1916,1940 and 1944 Olympics were cancelled due to the wars. And Seiko was the official time keeping brand used in those 1964 games... not easy esp as an Asian country. :D



HERITAGE



During the 1950s and 1960s, sport scuba diving had become increasingly popular. Increasing prosperity coupled with scuba technology developed during WWII gave private divers access to revolutionary equipment &*8211; including true divers watches. The advent of modern bezelled dive watches dawned in 1953 with the introduction of the Rolex Submariner and Blancpain Fifty Fathoms. Paradoxically, until the second half of the 1960s, landlocked Switzerland was the principal producer of dive watches for civilian diving!



Prior to the 1964 Tokyo Olympics (with Seiko as Official Timer), Seiko had introduced its first range of truly submersible sport watches with (internal) rotating countdown bezels( in the form of the Seikomatic 50m Silverwave (1962)and the Sportsmatic 30m Silverwave (1964). These sports divers were the immediate precursors to Seiko (and Japans) first professional diver comprising 150m depth capability, shockproofing, extreme legibility and an external timing bezel,the 62MAS(1965).



Why these three? Its because they are Seiko,and closest to the 1964 Olympic held in Japan(that I have). Maybe just need a 5717/5719 one button chrono to add in the collection... esp the black dial one with the olympic torch on caseback (note there are asian games logo and olympic games torch variant)

The Sportsmatic 30m Silverwave is from 1964 while the 62MAS is from '67. All these three have kinda fatter straight cut lugs hence I class them together.

Nice saturday and juz a consolidation of the titanium divers I have..(except mm300)

appreciation for the simple 7005-8160p
Used to have a working black dial 7005-8160p,kept as spare for 62mas hands replacement but later sold it off.





Also have one more (non running) silver dial 7005-8160p last year, keeping for parts.



And now have one more decent white dial 7005-8160P with original STL bracelet. Dial looks near mint with clean lume on hour markers and sweeping second hand. Best of all,it does come in its old seiko box.



Another cheaper alternative to the sports diver style 7005-8052 and 62MAS.

Vintage Omega 166.0223 Seamaster
This goldie 20 microns plated Seamaster from 70s is in rather good condition,other than faint marks on plastic crystal and one spot on dial. She has the in house calibre 1022.























original plastic crystal with etched omega logo.





fixed with a 1175 bracelet (20 microns)





comparison and side pic with my gold plated Seiko 6139 chronograph....

I have a good collection of gold plated watches hor... I don't mind wearing a gold plated watch with formal wear, esp with a dark brown strap, my favourite gold case + brown strap combo.

Anyway, congrats on that piece. Be careful when you stay out late, people might think it's solid gold ! :o

Had this Seiko 70m 7006-8030 2 weeks back and good thing is its with the original bracelet,though it really need a replacement bezel insert.



One of the stand out case shape for Seiko, look smiliar to Certina DS2/DS3 turtle shape case diver. Needs a service though cos movement is running intermitently(but can easily swop with donor 7006A movt)

Sindaco 17J skin diver with EB1451 movt in its old battered strap. Has the nice broadarrow and big lollipop sweep hands.

mini-troubleshoot my (mint blue rays dial) 6139-7080 as though the movement and buttons are in good conditions,the start/stop function of this watch wasnt responding at all(only work 1 in 100 times of pressing); Reset button is working ok.



So I took reference of this manual;

and diassemble the top layer and found one particular screw(marked red arrow) was very loose. The screw is to keep the chronograph bridge in place and tight with the gears underneath. So check all the 3 exposed screws on the chronograph bridge and they should be secured.



*becareful of the 'jumping' Y -shape pawl lever(with jewel) during diassemble!





putting the parts back;





tested it and the start/stop button functions well and sharp now.
