oOsiMm collection

Re: oOsiMm collection
ya the amazon deal, had actually emailed the guy a week ago riao but only one long reply and some details not in esp how much for international postage(if he does ship to SGP in first place). So far no reply received and realised that its gone from amazon yesterday(sold already )..the watch was in fact placed in my shopping cart few times but cant bring to pay it immediately as I am afraid he dont do International and I may have to explain and get back my refund...

also he was registered just 2 months ago with zero deals done. a hesitated decision, would rather buy from known collector from watch forums.

Re: oOsiMm collection
Black Landmonster hoot, gx bro.
alamak.....
I went to bencoolen today without any thoughts of a possible hoot. And something that ppl knw about me...

I lean more towards vintage watches(military style.divers, swiss or Jap,discontinued divers, chronos) and its isnt my style to hoot a new watch from any shop, knowing the depreciation of value once its been purchased on the spot. And definitely not me to 'venture' into either Kinetic or Solar for divers. The only solar watches I had were JDM Casio 6900 and vintage Casio solar. seiko kinetic,AGS,Solar or citizen ecodrive just isnt my style..

that's what I thought..

Last 2 week ago,CEO and I were at peoples' park SSLL at various watchshops and we were instantly drawn to the new Seiko Solar 200m diver chrono in the display shelve.

As you guys have probably molested this new series(or least read the inputs in the threads started on this watch),you will know its design, feel and whether its worth to purchase.. I have doubts that day if I would ever own one solar diver ... the doubts keep on coming .... and at the price(35% off)... worth or not... somemore new watch resell sure lugi...

so today in bencoolen ,I saw the black solar diver chrono(with rubber straps) and the other pepsi bezel variant. Walked around somemore and saw in the other shop with the black and thisvariant below.

so I asked to molest this watch, played around with it and seems nicely done esp that i like the blue chrono and sub register hands. Also the screwed down crown and pushers are a plus...kinda like a Seiko caesar in solar mode. :)

the black variant is so-so for me as i have many black tone divers already, pepsi one is really nice but think I like this blue black bezel more.

I hope this new experience for me on a solar diver is a good and longlasting one. I dont think I will venture much into solar diver chrono so i take it that this is an exception.

so here you see,under my lamp;

*strap n bracelet variant has a 40 bucks difference.

A quick thought on your no-solar preference (I feel the same way)....

I am not used to solar watches without power reserve indication and sleep mode. My eco-drive played me out enough last time for me to develop some aversion towards analog solars. IMO, for self-powered watches, analogs are best paired with self-winding movements, while digital are best paired with solars. Analog displays require torque, digital/LCD displays require current. A solar analog chronograph requires torque, but is photovoltaic in terms of power generation, so there has to be some losses during the conversion from electrical energy to kinetic energy. If a watch has been dormant in the dark for long, the owner also has no expedient way to quick-charge the watch, unlike a self-winder where we can at least shake the watch to kick-in some power quickly. A digital solar (I'm thinking the current casio g-shock solars) at least offers sleep mode, and cleverly shuts down the display once the ambient light is low, since the naked eye is unable to view the display anyway. And, the implementation also cleverly incorporates an auto-backlight mode that lights up the display when (1) wrist movement is detected; and (2) ambient light is low. Which is yet another clever way to take advantage of the photo-voltaic panels which are already on the watch ;)

Let us know how you take to solar analogs man. If it works for you I may need to have a rethink and try one too

Re: oOsiMm collection

"Astro2212"

New hoot???

yeah yesterday(few hrs ago) from bencoolen de..

The appeal of this new generation of SEIKO Solar watches lies in the simple practicality of the new SEIKO Solar technology:

The watches are powered by all kinds of light, not only sunlight.

1 minute The watches charge very quickly. In most SEIKO Solar calibers, just one minute of sunlight delivers one hour of charge (two minutes for women’s models) and the watch is fully charged after three hours.

6 months The watch retains the charge for an extended period. When worn regularly, the watch will remain fully charged, of course, but even if left in pitch blackness for 6 months, (or 12 in some models) the watch continues to work normally.

8 minutes If the watch is without power, it will start to operate completely normally after just eight minutes of exposure to sunlight.

herz bro...

chim-milogy... but understand bit here n there :D

agree with you that there is no quick way to charge up solar watches esp an analogue with chrono features, that when used(or to be use) will require more torque.. not sure how well this solar cell will last upon full charge(who knws) and I am not planning to try to measure by letting it go flat..

probably only indication would be the 2secs per tick on the seconds hand. maybe can also change the battery to a normal SR battery ..
