today morning i try indoor using Manual mode, 1/50, ISO200 & f/8.0 with bounce flash TTL and the photo look ok
if i use Aperture mode, i only can control the ISO & Aperture in manual way but i believe i can't control the shutter speed to reach not lower than 1/50.

There should be a setting for minimum shutter speed. The camera will then boost ISO to compensate.
I shoot in Aperture mode 95% of the time. It's the best mix of manual control and convenience for me. I'm also a fan of prime lens.

ok but i still prefer to use single point focus and most probably i will move the focus point to either left or right or have 1/3 rule for f/1.8.
for f/8.0, just move my cam to let my object fall in 1/3 rule...

I went to Menu --> ISO sensitivity setting --> Auto ISO sensitivity control --> OFF. under this OFF, I could control the Aperture & ISO manually but not the shutter speed.
If ON for the Auto ISO sensitivity control, set max ISO to 800 & Minimum shutter speed to 1/50, when I take shot; all stuck at ISO 800 as I can''t change manual for ISO but shutter speed is lower than 1/50

When using Aperture Priority mode, you can indirectly control the shutter speed by using exposure (EV) compensation.Use EV compensation if you see the image is too dark or too bright, so you + or - accordingly. After that you compare the settings of both images, the shutter speeds would be different.

I have a Lumix compact with EVF, but I dun like it and rarely use it. Not used to seeing LED in the view finder.

Why not Olympus 17mm f1.8 instead. I believe the AF would be much faster.

Didnt recommend that as it does not have the shallow depth of field I want them to experience.

Probably Nikon is still the better one. If I want a 24-70mm f2.8 lens, I would choose the Tamron one cos it has VC which is important to me.

Fast shutter speed is the key to this one.
Agree, the cam will have no problem locking focus on this subject unless she was running towards the camera.
Anyway, just set the cam to CAF, continuous Af. I use it for all situations.

Can a CAF use for moving object? like kid running around? marry couple walking along the aisle to the stage?

I'm trying to use 1/3 rule and always need to shift my single focus point either to left of right.
if i using CAF, can it work without shifting the SFP to left or right?

Personally, I would use fixed focus (locked when the subject is standing) and use burst mode. Since distance to camera doesn't change, no need for continuous focus. Fixed focus to maximise the number of shots taken in burst.

Ha ha, I may know the terms, but my camera is 90% of the time in aperture priority mode with single point focus. I prefer to set the focus point myself.

I believe the 17-55 came out before any digital full frame cameras were produced andthe 24-70 is the equilvalent of the 17-55 for FF cams.
I don't know whether you are stll able to get the 17-55mm new. Just did a search over at Clubsnap, some resale ones sell for less than $1k and some from $1k to $1.3k. And if I'm not wrong resale 24-70mm sells for $1.5k and up.
I'll still recommend a full frame cam D610 + a 35mm f1.8 fx lens. Don't worry, no need to have every focal length covered, just use your legs to zoom...

Haha, don't write off third party lenses, especially Sigma lenses. Would you not buy a micro brand watch? I love my Sigma 35mm f1.4., it beats Nikon for sharpness. Btw, I'm not so sensitive as to be able to see lots.of difference in colour rendition.
I recently dropped my metal Tokina lens, it hit my shin before landing on ceramic flooring. My shin bled but nothing went wrong with the lens. It.may not.be as sharp as the Nikon 105mm.but close.enough.
