Been thinking of an MM300 lately

Been thinking of an MM300 lately
Hi Guys,

This is my first post here, and its perhaps time to buy that elusive MM300. I always wanted to own a Seiko, but my first a SPR455K1 was disappointing as it felt too colorful or modern or blingy for a watch, or simply lacked the soul or a serious tool/dive watch. No surprise, it did not last more than a week.

Now however, I have my mind made up to move in for a MM300, but then I have a few questions.

Firstly, I would like to try out the MM300 on my wrists before getting one, so can anyone suggest a shop which has one at the moment. Appears these are sold out at BigTime(checked via phone call), Vivo and Jem Seiko boutiques. I did manage to try the MM600 at Vivo which sat perfectly on my wrist, and never have I felt a watch of that size and weight, fit my wrist that well. Liked it, but prefer dials without power reserve etc, which for me make the dial very busy. Thats even before I looked at the price tag.

Does the MM300 fit similar to the MM600, or rather does it have the same lug-case back design?.

I relatively new to the Seiko area so please pardon my lack of knowledge.

Next, I have been looking at the used market, but I am unsure if the MM300 has changed over the years or if Seiko has introduced any subtle changes or improvements of late. Moreover, whats the approximate service interval for the 8L35 movement assuming I would want this to be a keeper.

lastly, am a great fan of the Isofrane and bracelets are just not my thing. So does a orange Isofrane get along the orange-less MM300? Anyone has any pictures of one with orange??

Thanks for reading.

I wonder Shaggy angel price of $2500 is still valid. Has anyone check with him recently?

Re: Been thinking of an MM300 lately
Guys, if you like it, get it. The price is the lowest in my memory now. When I started looking at one a couple of years back, they were at least $3600 - $4000. So at $2.5 it is really value for what you are getting.

In any case, if you dont like it, it is always an easy flip from what I can see.

I think shaggy has a few pieces left. The forum bros are also very helpful and I even read earlier that some had offered to let hunters try their mm. You guys should search the threads again and contact these helpful bros.

Happy hunting.
Re: Been thinking of an MM300 lately

Re: Been thinking of an MM300 lately
I not really study deiko watches...my own preference is on diver watch and must be 42mm and above size without crown as my wrist is thick. Just recently gotten a thick size seiko diver aka stargate (quite old model). Read up on mm300 and considering it.
Re: Been thinking of an MM300 lately
HK got many preowned shops.

Especially along nathan road.

Can I LongBANG you to get some models if you spotted them?

Re: Been thinking of an MM300 lately
My only concern in HK are fakes or replicas as they are better know. Though it must be said that there are no reports yet of mm300 replicas.

Good luck hunting.
Re: Been thinking of an MM300 lately
Just to share this hk source, is it reliable I do not know but they have a shop for viewing and their prices are rather competitive. Facebook: search for clemiko timepiece.

Yeah maybe PO closer to MM300 in terms of size and weight, while the SMP300 is more dressy as it's lighter and slimmer.

Movement wise though i actually feel the co-axial chronometer movements found in SMP and older POs have an edge over the 8L35 in the MM300? Not sure if anyone else will agree with me though; but the 2500D in my SMP300 is keeping really good time, better than the stated specs actually; not that i am OCD about accuracy haha. So i am guessing the newer PO with the latest co-axial movements will be even better. But then not a fair comparison anymore as their pricing will be way way out of the MM300 range.
Re: Been thinking of an MM300 lately
I'm wondering whether a shark mesh would match with the MM300 (not that I have it)

Have been thinking about 009/sumo/orient 300m/mm300 lately...

For me the PO 8500 is much better than the MM. But the MM is much better value for money. The decoration and the accuracy of the PO far ourstrips the MM at more than thd double the price of course.

So far my PO averages -2 sec per day and my MM does it at +7 to 8.5 s. My SMP 300 is the older movement so no comparision to the newer co axial movements.

Very different animals. One is more bling the other utilitarian. Both same movements but very different accuracy imho. But then again accuracy varies even with the same range of MM which I have read goes from +2 to +9sec per day. I agree with those that says if in doubt buy both if possible. If not buy the one that sings to you most and get the other later hahaha. :P

Finally managed to molest an actual mm300 at big time.. Wow a lot smaller than I expected, it felt small next to my tuna and absolutely tiny next to the sumo they had on display... Doesn't feel like a tool watch but more like a dressy diver... Drool....

For me it's the opposite, if my wife was willing to follow me to Big Time, I would have walked out with a new watch. She go together with me means approved already

Re: Been thinking of an MM300 lately
Okay dont want to start a new thread, so i will ask it here. Got my mind set on a MM300 as my next dressy diver. Been exploring the different avenues of purchase and i have only one concern and that is the warranty and servicing.

Cheapest is of course right now from Shaggy, and then Higuchi, C-Watch and Seiya from S$2500 to S$2800. I don't know how the warranty will work for these online sellers? Anyone that bought from them before can enlighten me?

For Big Time, the only brick and motar seller stocking the mm300 that i know of is asking S$2830 and warranty is direct from them not Seiko.

Confused sigh...

The answers have been posted before. If you do a search you will find them.

From what I know and read on this forum, the warranty from shaggy is international and from the indon AD. Some has said that they have encountered no trouble presenting the warranty to TS. For Higuchi, I believe you will need to go back to them and they will handle from there with Seiko Japan. I think this is the same arrangement with Big Time.

I personally got mine from shaggy, so far no problems. IMHO umless you get a lemon right out of the box, the one year warranty is just academic.

So it is really what you are comfortable with. Shaggy has a great rep with the bros here so far and some have also said good things about Haguchi. While at Big Time you get to check out the piece (if they have one) before buying. The one that will calm the heart most will be to buy from TS but their prices are also heart stopping.

Your choice.
Re: Been thinking of an MM300 lately
Heh thanks for the reply bro KKFA, yeah if Shaggy one is from Indon AD with warranty card then i will get from Shaggy la, price is most reasonable. For Big Time, yeah they have stock, it was checking it out there in person that pushed me over the edge. For Seiko boutique in SG, the price is over the 3k mark liao with no discount and they also got no stock and no idea when and if there will be stock.

And of course i honestly hope that the warranty will never be used...

For my golgo, been in contact with Thong Sia, they want me to bring it down to them with the warranty card and they will try to see if they can send it back to Seiko Japan to see if they can do anything about it. Problem is my warranty card doesn't say international warranty..so not sure if they will bite, although it is stamped by an AD in Japan, a large chain store actually. So i will likely go down this week.
