This is in so many ways like doing a Nazi watch homage and selling it to Jews. Am I alone in having grandparents suffer under imperial Japan, and thus find such homages with strong association to WWII Imperial Japan distasteful and insensitive?

That's why it's important to raise this point.

We can either take it as a watch that's bring us back to Seiko horology history or its ugly history associated with the war and occupation.

It can be very sensitive to some individuals.

My grand father did share his experience during the occupation and its no way pleasant.

So, it's really up to the individual. :)

For me, I'm just appreciating it as a modern watch with a touch of vintage. Just like any modern reissue dive watches to keep it simple.

Good point "roo7" , we must remember that there isnt many ppl in Japan alive today that were directly involved in the past sufferings of the Singaporean ppl .

The current generations of Japanese today werent even born when Japan occupied Singapore , hence we cant blame the current Japanese ppl for pasts horrors inflicted by their forefathers .

There are many watches on our wrists and we do not know his real story. almost all of us we know that it's made of steel 315 and go with + or - 5 sec.

Currently many of us carry fligher style watches with different dials ... and I'm sure few know the real use.

The world of watches attracts many amateurs, not only for fashion, or the delicacy of their movements but also by feelings ... by memories (pleasant and unpleasant).

The watches are linked to wonderful things but also to horrible things to remember to not happen again.

Re: Tokkotai Project's Presentation
Tokkotai is Japanese for kamikaze (a combination of kami -- "god" -- and kaze -- "wind"). In wartime Japan, aeronautic suicide missions were officially called shinpuu (an alternate reading of the characters that make up the word kamikaze) or tokubetsu ko-geki-tai, which means "Special Force Units." The latter was abbreviated to tokkotai or tokko.
