Marine Master 300

[quote="roo7"]$4K for a ETA ? ;)

Well. Some would say, $4k for a seiko? ;p i,m one of them btw :) i,ve never been able to bring myself to buy a grand seiko, no matter how much i like that ltd edn blue face 1 with power reserve which some1 here reviewed recently iirc, or any seiko for that matter that costs more than $1k, but have paid $6k-$8k for a eta watch. It,s all a matter of perception.

I share your sentiments. I dunno how to appreciate seikos of that level yet. For me once it hits a certain price point, other factors like branding, appeal, finishing and materials tend to come into the picture.

Agreed, this subject is always discussed in great lengths. You take a Grand Seiko and any Swiss watch of the same value. You will get the best finishing and materials on the Grand Seiko but the Swiss will still stand out in terms of branding and appeal.

Go to any guy on the street, "give you 3K, will you buy a Seiko diving watch that goes up to 300m or will you buy a Tag...."

Very u fortunate but true. But between a tag and a gs, I'll opt for gs straightaway.

good read for all, it's seems even rolex owners agree that gs wins rolex in terms of quality. can't say the same for brand recognition and other factors though. I'd choose mm300 over any watch in that price bracket personally :)

Tag abit hard to say. But if you ask 3k for a seiko or omega. I think 90% ppl still choose omega.

It seems like we can have a small voting to decide which brand will emerge winner...

GS, Omega, Tag and Rolex... I will go for Rolex for image and their quality so far is reliable from what I heard from my friends who has it although I do not own one.

I was in Japan 2 months ago and almost made a rush decision to buy a entry level quartz GS at SGD$2200 (i think its sbgx009), then in the showcase beside GS is Tag selling close to the same range about SGD$2000-2500. I used to have a good impression of Tag but changed. And they are accepted by pawnshop but so do Omega and Rolex....

But, come to think of it I bought my Omega Dynamic chrono new years ago. Discontinued long ago. Bro Roo is right. Nowadays, cheapest Omega auto watch costs at least $5k liao.
Re: Marine Master 300
I am willing to pay $4k+ for brand new GS. But only for sbgh 36000bph range. To my knowledge, there's no other brand new watch model below $5k that uses an automatic 36000bph movement, in house or out house.

Below $5k new have ah? Auto 36kbph? If have, then I have to reconsider again. I had a zenith 36k chrono, below 5k but it was used, and handwind, not auto.

I was just quoting an example with a 3K price tag :) For sure you can't get a SM or a PO at 3K...

Again, it's like G2000 vs Zara or whatever brands.

Zenith El Primero chrono with date, black dial and stainess steel bracelet. Saw it last year at a small watch shop at Lucky Plaza. An unworn piece. A friendly uncle offered it to me at $3.8k. I nearly went ATM to press money. But, I lun by telling myself that it looks quite similar to my IWC Flieger Chrono. If the dial was white in colour, I would have hooted Liao. ;)

Waaah! Swee. El primero is 36k tio bo. Back to topic, if I can find el primero chrono auto new at 3.8k, then a Gs hi beat becomes a lot less attractive.

K2 doesn't sell MM300.

It's only occassionally people 'sell' or 'trade in' this model to him.

Maybe Big Time might have stock. Try calling them to enquire

Re: Marine Master 300
Sorry to ask cos probably others have asked before.

Does K2 service the MM300?

I think prospective buyers would be concerned about servicing as the watch can only be opened from the front.

Edit: I didnt call K2 to check cos i dont have the MM300 yet, lol.

Thanks for the infor. But generally are those online shop like Higuchi & Seiya pricing more attractive? Just ignore me if its sensitive to talk about this openly. Still learning the culture here. Thanks!

Re: Marine Master 300
Pricing is not really sensitive, unless you don't wish to share because it's a special price for you.

Anyway, once you clocked your 10 posts, you might want to check out the market place for the pricing for used and new pieces.... Shipping from those Japan shops can cost quite a bit as there's GST..

Higuchi and Seiya do in general have a more attractive price, but please remember to factor in the 7% GST which singpost will ask for once it lands in Singapore.

The other factors are the risk of the parcel being lost in the mail OR mail theft.

i have bought from Seiya and Higuchi before, but only for watches that are of a certain amount. The more expensive watches, I prefer not to take the risk.
Re: Marine Master 300
hmm, chino-watch price is very competitive as well, if not, slightly cheaper right?
Re: Marine Master 300
BigTime MM price is listed openly leh.. Think it is selling slightly above $3k now.. Used to be on the high 3 side but according to Irene from BigTime (I was there yesterday)... YEN went down so prices drop. Worth to go and take a look

With the current prices (SGD$1 = 75 Yen NOW, was 62Yen last year) it is pretty competitive to the overseas seller unless of course you can siam GST which is more unlikely. I do believe in supporting your local SMEs (that offer competitive rates & don't assume you are dumb)... Or even K2 ah Goh! SIAN-TS is no more local.... CHINA owned to be precise. :?

True, the specs of a ETA is equivalent to a 8L35 movement, 28.8K bph, hand-winding, hacking movement.

The 8L35 is a undecorated, unregulated version of the Grand Seiko 9S55 and rumored to be hand assembled in Shizukuishi workshop in Japan...
