Official Omega Speedmaster Thread

Re: Official Omega Speedmaster Thread

"oOsiMm"

general Omega speedmaster movements:

http://chronomaddox.com/moonwatch_cal_background.html"delryn brake" in this movt. See above chronomaddox link.

The 861 was copper plated . Omega says rose gold until 1992 for the 861 and 863 then yellow gold until 1996, rhodium thereafter.

The 1863, has the metal brake instead of Delrin and is finished by hand (filing, angling and polishing).

+1.. I found it hard to comprehend them unless I have the real piece to see for myself. Thanks :)

Re: Official Omega Speedmaster Thread
Just thought i'll bump this one cause i am currently on the search for a nice pre-owned 3570.50 as a gift for my 30th.. well either this or a Tudor black bay lah.

Apologies for no significant contribution. Perhaps a wrist shot will suffice in the near future. :)
Re: Official Omega Speedmaster Thread
Thinking of getting the 3873.50.31 speedy sapphire sandwich with straps, any bro can advise the current price and discount....thanks a million
Re: Official Omega Speedmaster Thread
spent some time reading around and including this thread. very very seriously poisoned.

probably will be getting a 1861 powered 3570 - and it'll be my first "serious" watch - after collecting a couple of seikos.

wonder if ah goh had kept any in his stash or not LOL
Re: Official Omega Speedmaster Thread
Already got a moonwatch with strap and thinking of getting another. Any bros can advise whether to get another 1863 , 1861 or a 861 is better?

Already got a moonwatch with strap and thinking of getting another. Any bros can advise whether to get another 1863 , 1861 or a 861 is better?

The movements are all derived from the Lemania 1873

The 1861 has 1 extra jewel and glit plating compared to the 861

The 1863 on the other hand is technically a 1861 that is decorated and has its delryn brake replaced with a metal brake instead for used with display caseback models (eg. sapphire sandwich)

Personally I dont think there is significant difference between the different variants

That means they are all similar so no point get another same watch right? Might as well plan for other watches

I think it depends, if having different movements is an important criteria in your collection, probably not.

I wouldn't get any other 861/1861/1863 variants if I already own one unless its the Mitsukoshi Panda/Alaska Project

but perhaps consider a Speedy with a 321 (the "actual" movement that went to the moon)/9300 (in-house coaxial, twin register chrono but this is a thick watch)/3033 or 3133 (developed by omega with Frederic Piguet, column wheel chrono, 3033 non coaxial, 3133 coaxial)

Hi bros

Can I check (for fun) are the broad arrow ones more rare and more expensive?
Re: Official Omega Speedmaster Thread
my fren is hunting for a white/silver dial auto Speedy, I found 1 for him at 2.6k

Model is 3211.30

full set, warranty just over, watch is 2 yrs old.

is 2.6k a fair price?

1st owner got it from Cortina Watch
Re: Official Omega Speedmaster Thread
I would try closer to 2.4k for that model. 2.6 is a little on the high side imo.
Re: Official Omega Speedmaster Thread
thks bro :)

Moon watch owner here
Re: Official Omega Speedmaster Thread
Hi all,

Looking for a daily beater. Considering the Speedmaster and the Seamaster ( sorry I understand this thread is about Speedmaster ). Which speedmaster I should be looking at?

Criteria

- Automatic

- At least 40mm

Good resale value if possible. Budget sub $2,500

Thanks
Re: Official Omega Speedmaster Thread
I dont think you can get a brand new speedmaster in that price range.

I think the closest match to your criteria/budget would be the speedmaster automatic date series (3212.80, 3210.50)

They should go for about 2k-2.4k used.

Re: Official Omega Speedmaster Thread
buying such omega chronographs from abroad esp ebay is a risk you got to bear. Best is from local else from ppl(forums/ebayer) that you really know/trust as the watch might work ok but not as good as it seems-in the grey zone.

just take precaution.

Anyone knows where to service a speed master besides the official omega service centre under swatch group? Was quoted $1065 to service my speedy.....hoping to find a cheaper and reliable alternative?

JW watch does service the speedy too, waiting time is a little on the long side though.
Re: Official Omega Speedmaster Thread
If they quoted 1065, does it includes parts replacement ?

Usually AD service and they provide parts replacement for worn down parts.

Got the actual service sheet and it came to 900+ including GST. Lead time of 8 weeks and they replaced my Hesalite crystal, crown, stem, tube, main spring and striker. Also includes polishing of case and bracelet and restoration of factory water resistance plus 2 years warranty. Not too bad I guess?

Do you still require an alternative for repair & overhaul for your speedy? I go to the fine folks of Bronzeage for various counts.

PM if you need details. :) cheers.

Speedmaster is a great watch with a very reliable calibre. There are those who said the Omega engine is better than Rolex but somehow the value is lower locally. Had a Speedmaster and had never regretted buying it.

oops only saw your reply today. Ended up sending my speedmaster to Swatch for servicing, paid around $950, full service, replacement of crystal and quite a few other parts, plus polishing of bracelet and case. Not too bad i guess and the 2 year warranty is a bonus.

The $950 you have paid for is for a peace of mind & good will from Swatch. I'd do the same if I have spare cash.
Re: Official Omega Speedmaster Thread
Maybe OT a bit. Servicing at Swatch may not be all that good. Didn't know till I gave my old seamaster to Mr. Goh of K2 to service. He asked where I had last serviced the watch as he noted that a pair of the screws inside was wrongly inserted into the other's place. He was surprised when I told him that the service was done by Swatch Group.

I believe Mr. Goh has nothing to gain in this so I tend to believe him. This goes to show that mistakes do happen even at authorised dealers servicjng centers.

Just thought I 'd share this. No malice intended.
Re: Official Omega Speedmaster Thread
I've been researching Speedys for a while now and I must say this thread consolidates most of the knowledge out there and makes so much more sense to me. Finally I begin to see the difference in the different speedys. :)

Looking at a 1982 speedy pro now on one of the sites. But not sure if it's a good idea because it will come from overseas and the Price looks a little high.

Anywhere in Sg I can go hunting?

Bencoolen has a few shops with quite a few speedies but pricing wise im not too sure. Buying direct from owner would be a better option though.

Thanks for the response. Been to bencoolen before and some of the prices are quite hiong.

I will continue to trawl the forums. Lol

I came across a 50th anni speedmaster handwound coaxial limited to 1957 pcs. This is the same release as the patch 50th which was I think limited to the 2000s.

This is supposed to be bnib but asking price is very high. Over 10k.

I read the thread and most advise not to get a auto one. But this is a handwinding, but coaxial with display caseback and sapphire glass, is it worth the premium over the normal speedy pro.. more importantly worth collectlng?

Comments anyone?

imo i never buy watches more than the original cost, i take it as a missed opportunity to get it new then. To me i would rather buy something current and the similar price. At 10k i would Rather get a "dark side of the moon".
