buying a vintage chrono is not easy, esp in all original parts ;)

Thks for the offer, bro stepper. I still new to Seiko vintage and maybe need to time learn on how to see original parts. But I will still consider your Jumbo. Or it is possible to give me a short review of your Jumbo so I can understand more.

no, it's not purely on 6138s, a mixture of here & there on some more popular 6138s like bullhead & 6139 Pogues.



Usually I will use this & google as references to cross check on certain vintage models

Thk bro. I do understand these reference are only for guideline. But still, it take many years of experience to know the diff between original and fake.

With my current watch knowledge, I have doubt that I'm able to spot the fake parts, if the seller say all original and of coz on the price too. I know nut on the pricing of Seiko vintage chrono.

Posted my first post in the Introductions sections several months ago, but since then never posted liao.

Then I met one of the Administrators at K2 this afternoon, who encouraged me to post more, so here I am.

My watch collecting 'focus' is on the early automatic chronographs from Heuer, Zenith and Seiko, which first appeared in 1969, my birth year.

So after finding some Heuer and Zenith pieces, I was looking hard for a early Seiko 6139.

After casting my search-net worldwide for many monthly without fruit, I finally found one locally!

So this ended up as my first vintage Seiko - a JDM Seiko 5 Speed-timer 6139-6010 with 'Proof' dial, 'Proof' caseback, with serial number 01xxxx dating to Jan 1970, 21J 6139A movement, recessed dimpled crown, and it even had the period correct bracelet.

The only thing 'wrong' with it is that the running chrono hand seems to be of the later type rather than the earlier 2-piece type!

After that first Speedtimer 6139-6010, I detoured from Heuer and Zenith to Seikos for a while...



I couldn't quite believe my eyes when I saw the ad....the photos were terrible, but it looked like a reasonably good condition JDM Seiko 5 Sports Speed-timer 6139-6000, Proof dial, Proof back, notch case, 2-piece chrono hand, original bracelet, plus an incredible serial number 93xxxx, making it a very very early automatic chronograph from March 1969!



In the flesh, it is, undoubtedly, a stunning watch.

I had thought my earlier acquisition (it's close cousin, the bezel-less 6139-6010) was a pretty good looking creature, but this 6139-6000 definitely steals the show...with her elegant and enigmatic metallic blue dial offset by the red of the 'Speed-timer' script and the 2 chrono hands, and all framed within that unique case, and a much better designed bracelet...she's just so achingly beautiful.



A quick trip to my watchmaker made me even more ecstatic - he popped open the back to reveal a pristine, period correct, 21J 6139A movement, Seiko's effort at the world's first automatic chronograph movement - supposedly on sale to the public in Tokyo by mid 1969, when the Swiss brands had just showcased their watches, and barely started mass production!

After acquiring my black dialed Jan 1970 Speed-timer 6139-6010 and the blue dialed March 1969 Speed-timer 6139-6000, I was on a Speed-timer roll!

My next target was what I considered to be the prettiest Speed-timer of 'em all, the 6139-6030 - black dial with silver sub-dial.



I had patiently wait for a correct early one with a notch case, Proof dial, Proof caseback, 21J, 6139A movement, and after several months of online trawling, I finally found one...not mint by any stretch of the imagination, with some discolouration of the silver subdial, but otherwise in an excellent, original condition.

Dating to Jan 1970, this one even had the original, and very funky, bracelet and original 'Seiko 5 Sports' clasp!
