I'll do my usual routine lor...cross-check serials against known production date range, open caseback to establish presence of normal wear, and add in an extra measure of intuition and common sense. there is a red variant for 6138-8030, but saw it on spanish forum and never on anywhere else

for me, i will compare the numeric fonts on the sub dial, there will be a degree of difference btwn the original one & a recon one, I'm not sure if the colour of the sub dial plays a part..



best is, take an original SLiderule with you, compare on the spot with a loupe :lol:

I can only say,what those '101 ways to authentic seiko chronos' are only that much whereas the fakers are always few steps ahead of anyone...experience counts and nt sure how one can fully authenticate any watch at CSC,takes time,keen eye to details using loupe.



Case(NOS?artificial brushing,sharp n crude edges?),movement parts(dont just see a 6138B stamping then happy riao,picture how does a actual movement look like else saved a pic in your smartphone),hands and dial especially...



fakers are fulltime enterprises...they do it for 365 1/4 days a year constanting upgrading themselves from internet too..

they are getting better,many seasoned collectors also got conned for a good deal..(but nt mean sexpensive means legit),I can say more or less they hab same supplier for good selling Seiko/Omega..there arent many ways/source for the few stall owners to buy in watches at low prices then resell for good profit..only one particular source cab give them such price...(maybe got new source then I dont knw)



basic thing ;



dial bottom font size+spacing+detailing

sub register hash marks and detailings

overall hash marks

dial front words detalings,font thickness,spacing etc



turn watch around;

use thumb rubba rubba the lug area,shouldnt be too sharp.look ard area ard lug for irregularities.

stamping on back case to be seiko standard



if they allow you to open up watch,then check inner sides of case,again not too sharp and crudely made..



movement wise better check against picture on your phone unless you ok with it...



crown+pushbuttons



and of course the hands painted or nt,length etc..

:lol: Mr cannon got many 6138 stacked away...tink most needs service cos stopped working at some point... one sold the bring another out..

if anyone here want to hoot a good deal for few hundred bucks...



usual buyers are new collectors,local resellers or resellers from malaysia who got those watchblogs selling rojaks.. :?
