Inspired by all the recent bokeh shots, especially from Chris, I thought I will start a thread for all to share their pictures.



I dug out my >10yrs camera for this shot...hope this qualifies :P

Very nice! Will try other shots and see how it goes, but my cam not low light friendly...

Not low light friendly, no problem.

You can use a tripod or rest the cam on a sturdy base.

Manual focus and use self-timer to avoid camera shake.

Given that there are so many experts here, can anyone enlighten this newbie here how to make great shots?



I only have a simple digital camera and do not have much knowledge on photography. Can anyone share what are some of the basic items and information I need to make great shots?

use low aperture settings (a low f), cameras with larger sensors have more bokeh effect. also, zooming in as much as possible (only if it is optical, not digital zoom) helps create more bokeh.

Great shot is not just about bokeh. Think about composition and lighting.

Like what Grumpy said, composition and lighting play a big part.

And like what Ivan said practice and practice.

My composition skill has improved ever since I joined this forum :D

Here are some ideas for you.



Put it the jeans pocket





Take lume shot





Use flowers





Do a product shot (notice no shadows, higher difficulty)





Play with water

phone cam still camera.

I have not touched my dslr for more than 2+ years. My Fuji GF 1 only used once 2 years ago. I have not used my compact camera for more than a year.

Have been using my phones mostly for the past 2 years :oops:

agreed, bokeh is just one aspect of composition. there are many other aspects of composition and lighting as well :D

Phone cameras are great tools for busy people. You can shoot and practise anytime, anywhere. 8-)

When using HP and compact cameras, try to use the macro mode as most of the time we want to get a bigger picture of the watch. In this way, you can focus closer and get some background blur out of it.

Tried another shot today. Didn't manage to get the right colours out. It's tough trying to find good lighting, position and background :cry: Will try a day shot over the weekend.



I think I ended up with a macro instead of a bokeh shot... :lol:

since you have some blurred areas in your photo, technically you have bokeh. bokeh is actually the quality of the blurred part of your photo. loosely speaking what you have there can be called a "bokeh shot" too. :)

Composition is ok, there is some handshake though. You can push the image during your post processing to make it pop a little.

:lol: :lol: yeah.. not handshaking.. its cos i had to press the LIGHT button on the watch. So I think the watch still shaking a little after i pressed the button :oops:

iPhone camera is also capable of producing nice bokeh too except its hard to control exposure.
