Poll - Diver Watches ??
Alot of members here own a Diver's watch & for good reason they are awesome tool watches & generally look good also . But honestly how many Diver watch owners actually use them for Diving ? Or even intend to ever use them for Diving ? Alot of Diver's watches are used for everything 'but' what they are made for ' Scuba Diving' .

Im thinking more He Gas Diving & fully suited up , not bath tubs , sinks , swimming pools , shallow beach snorkel / mask skin Diving . Many guys buy 300 , 600 , 1000m Divers & never see any He Gas Diving action :(

So why bother ? With anything more than 100m water resist :?:

The most possible reasons...
Having DIVE watches doesn't mean one will frequently be involved in diving activities. With the hectic and time schedules every single day, i doubt there'll be alot of people really want to spend their weekends to take diving course such that they get certified to be involved in diving activities. Most of the folks here, who're married, with kids, will most likely want to spend their weekends with their families.



So... why does folks still buy dive watches? I think, and i'm pretty sure... There'll be folks like me, who consider themselves, as well as myself, as a clumsy person in life that we tend to brush our wrist against the wall or other hard surface whenever we're on the move. We may also tends to hit on other objects and surface, as well as in extreme case drop our watches to the ground. Hence, we need a "tough nut to crack" specs timepiece in our collection. For those who're working in a harsh environment, this is especially true in life, that most of us will use a dive watch as a daily ticker.



With the extra external bezel, big, thick case, thick crystal glass, the dive watches are built to take hard knocks, abrasions, and shocks! Dive watches are the real "tough nuts to crack" in the world of timepiece!

I have not dived in years. When I used to dive, I think I did not have any dive watches. But I would love to get back to the sport.

Agree with u boss. Except the irony is that there are so many dive watches now with their polished surfaces and glossy bezels and leather straps and what not. totally dont look like they are designed for such activities at all. Can they withstand it? Yes but are they designed with those dangers in mind? Dont think so..

Very good point , i can see Casio G shocks would be very popular for roughin it . If i owned a high end GS Diver or Sub Mariner i'd be scared to use it in case i damage it , so a G Shock or $800 - 200m Prospex would be my pick toolwatch Diver .

That's true for most of us and ed also raise a good point about the toughness of a dive watch.



i know that in most cases a 100m with non-screwdown crown could pass for daily washing, lap swimming, shower and all.



But one other point to note is the pressure resistance is not just with reference to water depth.

Generally it is related that the deeper u go the higher the pressure, so the 200m, 300m, 600m and 1000m watches will be useful in such cases.

However, these ratings are usually related to pressure (20bar, 30bar, etc), coz the rule of thumb is 1bar = 10m vertical height. I think it is more important, when it is referred to as a pressure instead of a depth.



For example, activities such as surfing, body boarding, body surfing, etc is not usually done at great depths, but could expose your watch to high pressures (when wiping out or being "dumped" against a large surf or wave, etc). This could subject your watch to an instantaneous high pressure - even for a split second.



In such cases, a 100m water resistance watch would may not be able to withstand for a prolong period of time.

In all honesty, I cannot take boats. I get sea sick. This no chance for me to do any diving. Taking boats for snorkelling already killed me. When I went Maldives, I suffered....Sian 1/2.

So in summary , the majority of Diver's are purchased with no intention to use for actual Scuba Diving . More for their cool looks & toolwatch ruggedness , nothing wrong with that . ;)

Hi there. I have dived with my Luminox 3050 before. Since it's marketed as a "navy seal approved" watch I was thinking it would be able to take quite the beating. Held up well and I'm still wearing it.



Probably wouldn't do the same with my shiny 171 or monster though. Haha!

i dive but dont wear watch.i think most diver will wear a dive computer not a watch.i need to know my air time not tell time.the sea out there is not ocean park no need to know what time is the fish feeding time :) .If dive watch for divers then those cheap brand watches can recall their flightmaster watch.i dont think a pilot will wear a cheap seiko flightmaster they will rather wear a rolex or a iwc.if a pilot really use the watch function to fly the plane rather than use the plane control system.i will not step onboard any plane at all.So people buy watch for its' look design rather then the function.

Most people buy watch for its design. But, I don't think pilots prefer to wear Rolxx and IWC lah. Nowadays, it is common for youngsters and salesmen at Sim Lim to wear a Rolxx. As for IWC, also commonly seen on the wrists of people walking on the streets or on MRT, compared to a few years ago. But, I have yet to see people wearing Seiko Flightmaster. I personally own Rolxx, IWC and Seiko Flightmaster. Rolxx and IWC are not that exclusive already. Another crappy comment by me. Hahaha. ..

In all fairness, he did say "think", which is by all means not a confirmation of any sort.

Dun get so work up lar.. unless you are the pilot who wear cheap seiko watches.

But again what's the definition of CHEAP??



According to your post I dun think you have any CHEAP seiko watches.



If i am looking for watches with good and accurate functions, I will go for casio or timex..
