For my selfish interest, I'm suggesting we do something like this

Re: Interval Of Forum Watch & Next Forum Watch Base

Suggestion is free

Talk is free

When come down to dollars and cents, see how many will fork out 300 and abv.

Anyway, since all whack higher and higher, I suggest using a GS as base.

GS looks like 65, may even save the R&D.

Re: Interval Of Forum Watch & Next Forum Watch Base
I think a hackable/better movement watch would be great. But at the same time understand that to make this an affordable piece that doesn't affect everyone while sourcing of parts etc are also easy. Believe that going with full swing, off the shelf are we willing to fork out 400usd min(and above)? And not sure we can make the MOQ. Of course then it will be a Miyota 90XX or possible ETA but more.

Already 30pcs and we didn't have that many ppl take on 2012 project. Seiko siao lead, support for a good bro.

For this mod, you can do it individually now (not saying anything wrong with your suggestion) and I do believe that for a forum watch project, the goal is to have a uniquely fair priced watch that is generally not available outside of the project.

4R36 fits the bill of all. Hackable and relatively budget friendly. Easy to service, since it bears roughly 80% of 7Sxx architecture.

Since there're brudders here suggesting to go for the FF model, i think the WorldTimer fits better in design, as the case design looks very much close to the SNZG FF series. Btw... now, non warranty WorldTimer can be get @ less than $180 in little india!
Re: Interval Of Forum Watch & Next Forum Watch Base
I won't mind using a monster as a base watch, its a proven rugged design with good mod-ability just like the SKX007/9 series. Been thinking about getting a monster for my collection but always some other watch crop up to "potong jalan" the queue.

Can I request that we have raised indices for the hour markings, i.e. similar to that on the FF dial or the SKX 171 dial. IMHO makes a watch looks more classy and expensive than it is
Re: Interval Of Forum Watch & Next Forum Watch Base
+1 for 4r36...isn't looking like ff a common mod too. It's ok not to have the PMMM, it's just my little input :)
Re: Interval Of Forum Watch & Next Forum Watch Base
The new monster with 4r36 as base watch would be good.

At least there is hand wind, hacking... might not be as robust as 7sXX but 7sXX is slowly being phased out.

Another watch base that we can consider is Sardine, slightly more ex but might be interesting to change the shroud to some metallic ones.

Looks like planning starts early this yr.

It hv to start early, as the whole project may take more than 10mths to complete. This time round start early, next yr when anniversary arrives, those who ordered can get their watches ordered in gathering @ the same time.
Re: Interval Of Forum Watch & Next Forum Watch Base
ask steinhart la to make special watch for scs, they made several customised forum watches right?

we've returning customers of stheihart here, maybe their contacts can give us discount

They don't do forum projects anymore and frankly at the S$300 bench mark,(which was set for last year's project - look at the numbers) :( that really doesn't leave a lot of room for free play. Unless we use a 4R movement as suggested and even then, it's really a stretch to meet the requirements. Once again, nothing personal and would love to see a 'better' movement/watch (however one wants to classify) but there are constraints for others which we all need to be mindful of.
Re: Interval Of Forum Watch & Next Forum Watch Base
Seiko make commerative special order watches , with imprinted dials & lazer etched case backs to order .

A collaboration with a micro brand would sound more effective when it comes to QC as well as turnaround time thou. They have parts availability as well as resources. It serves as a win-win situation for both parties thou. They getting the exposure and sales while we get a unique timepiece. I reckon the more mainstream ones are hefty on the pocket, probably the lesser known brands might welcome our enquires? :)
Re: Interval Of Forum Watch & Next Forum Watch Base
ok from the reply from bro here, we will use GS SBGA031 as watch base. Will finalized the cost and quantity soon.

on a serious note i think we will use either the SNZH watch as base and do a serialized caseback with our SC logo printing and deign the bezel insert, hands(looking at snowflake) & dials(looking at Black,Blue Or white this time)

or the new monster with a black dial red chapter ring or red dial black chapter ring. will check if can do the serialized case back.Hands will be open for suggestion.

Looking at about 50 pcs(hopefully for this time round).

seems like everyone goes for 1 forum watch a yr so i think we shld starts now to pace ourself so that can in time for forum gathering next year since the first forum watch took about 11mths from start to end to complete.

who wanna volunteer be the chief designer?i just need someone to design and i will handle the rest...

actually i suggest seiko as watch base because we're a seiko club not like wus can have chinese watch, russia watch, usa watch or swiss watch as base.

cost will also be lower as i dun see ppl wanna come up with at least 600 and above for a forum watch

Just in case if can't secure the SNZH FF 7Sxx watch as the base... can always consider the WorldTimer SRP12x with 4Rxx where the case and bezel dimension and design is almost as close to the SNZH FF.

The new monster as another option is a good idea. But i just would like to highlight that the RED TEETH MONSTER is hard and takes sometime to source as according to Mr.GOH when the last piece walks away with his customer. We'll need probably a poll to pick between the options given and decide as soon as possible such that long period time of allowance can be given to complete the sourcing.
