Awesome watch case : Pelican case with custom cut foam

Late last year a fellow forum member, Quasimodo initiated a group buy of Pelican cases to be used as watch cases.

These cases are well known to be watertight, crushproof and dustproof.

It is toolish looking with no unneccesary aesthetics. It also a plain matt black in colour.





The case opens up like a normal briefcase and secured at the front with 2 double safety locks that can be locked with a key (provided) . There are also 2 additional points for extra locks if needed.



The case comes with high quality foam on both the lifd and main body of the case.

The main foam is actually precut to allow more accurate cutting of the foam to suit whatever is suppose to be protected in it.









I was actually reluctant to cut the foam as i was afraid of making a mistake :lol:



Luckily Quasimodo came to my rescue as he was also looking for a better way to cut the foam.

After much research and shopping around he manage to find a source that will specially laser cut the foam to accomodate watches. He was also kind enough to give me one of these special foam inserts.



Here is how the end product looks like..

The laser cut foam looks good and there are no ragged edges or frayed foam corners. It fits 18 big watches comfortably with no chance of watch cases banging or nudging each other.



The best part IMO is the watch pillow...







It has nice rounded edges and it sits into the 'hole' nicely.

It also allow the watches the to be tilted at an angle for display .



All in all i am very happy with this case :) . It fits my big tunas easily and i know they are well protected from knocks and dusts. Only downside is i cannot see them (maybe its a good thing - the wife cannot see them either :lol: )



Another problem is that now i may have to get another case for my other 20 odd watches! :D

Empty slots in a watch box are very dangerous! You will always be tempted to fill up the slots.

And when the slots are full, you will want to get another watch case...and the vicious cycles continues... :twisted:

Ya man! On Pelican's website you can find survivor stories. There was a soldier in Afghanistan who threw himself on top of an explosive with Pelican under him. Needless to say, he survived the blast to write the story and thank Pelican.



These cases have a lifetime warranty, man! But Pelican won't warrant it against 4 year olds. Hahahaha!

I use Pelican for my camera lenses. These boxes can stand a lot of abuses!



On the side note, for those keeping their watches at home, why use a pelican? You should display your watches with all its glory!

Oh.. forgot to consider that.. hahhaa.. kinda extreme to bring thousands - 10Ks of dollars worth of watches to gatherings ..... =X

I attended last year SG ROC's gathering, the watches in the group shot is probably worth in the hundred thousand... that's like 1-2 watch per member. Of course their watches more atas.. haha.

Very tough looking case , bullet proof protection :)
