If it came from 6215... It is quite rare!!!

Nice catch~~~ Did you manage to get the original second hand back?

No, didn't, the owner offered a swap but I thot the stoplight one looks nicer.

I also almost bought a used SD600 and used FM. I didn't buy the SD600 because the local boys (uncles mostly) told me that servicing might be lengthy cos have to send back japan. Btw the price of brand new SD600 is HKD36000, after discount HKD30000. From citychain's seiko boutique.

I passed on the FM because it is rather small, light (titanium), and combined with the display caseback, feels a bit like Seiko5. Also, the screw-down pushers lock position is to unscrew... Screwing down actually unlocks. Strange.

A bit sayang, should have gotten the spare second hand from the owner. So in case you want to offload in future can say you still have the original hand.

Re: Eyeing for a Grand Seiko

I agree, and personally I'd go for the hi-beat models. This performance spec sets the GS apart from other seikos, and probably from swiss offerings in the same price range too.

IF I get a springdrive (a BIG 'if'), I'll go for either the SD600 or the one with the moonphase :)
Re: Eyeing for a Grand Seiko
Hmmm... mechanical? Will this be a better choice?

Re: Eyeing for a Grand Seiko
I'll still go for a hi-beat. It is more challenging to engineer a movement to run at high frequency without compromising power reserve, than to have a GMT function. So hi-beat still gets my vote. The aesthetics of GS models must be compare with alternatives in the same price bracket, and once we do that, I find that a GS doesn't stand out (aesthetically)... it is beautiful and well-built, but a lot of watches in that price range are.

So, what sets a GS apart in my mind, must be the high frequency movement.

Re: Eyeing for a Grand Seiko
Tell me about it...we seem to be paying more for many things as compared to other countries.

Now, to rub it in further, look at this thread: http://forums.watchuseek.com/f304/grand-seiko-spring-drive-gmt-sbge001-520835.html

10% discount, plus 12% VAT rebate... that GMT suddenly becomes more affordable!!!! Can u find this price anywhere else??! Damn... i'm definitely looking at the wrong brands when i was there. As i've said, who in the world would have thought about getting a GS in Europe?!!!

Re: Eyeing for a Grand Seiko
In addition to europe, HK is also cheaper from a combination of higher discount (I was offered 20%) and arbitrage. :D Airfare is cheaper and flight-time less balls-aching.
