When his...... Errrrggg, her ex bf dumped her after getting her pregnant, she gave up being a girl and wanted to revenge, so she gave her child to her relative, went to Thailand to do sex change and came back.

I guess i hv to step in to initiate a little effort to share my reminiscence on the past romance failure story before this thread goes Off Track...



This is going to be a big challenge, as i'm now in my late 30s, trying to recall those scenes more than 20yrs back may take a little effort.

Okay... here it goes...



The time(1988) when i realize that i like a particular gal is when i was in my Sec.3 in Whampoa Secondary(now replaced by Bendemeer Secondary), when i was posted into all boys technical class. It takes 2yrs for me to consolidate all the positive impression on her when we were all the while classmates from Sec.1 till Sec.2.

She doesn't really look much like the movie character as in [Apple in my Eyes] with that killer cute, innocent looks.

In fact she have quite a pair of big round eyes and perky nose with egg shaped face contour that makes her look like a inter-racial kid. In addition to the wave of idols like 伊能静 as well as 王祖贤， the small amount of hairs that she kept hiding her forehead adds a little more "lume" of herself in the class of dull gals who had oredi been into dolling themselves up with short skirts and make ups.



When we were in Sec.1 she seat couple of rows behind me. We don't really communicate much unless when i go to the back row to help out a english speaking classmate who's poor in chinese.



When we were in Sec.2, she seats on my left, while another 3 girls were arranged to be seat around me, since i was branded as the talkative kid in the class. Most of her subjects are done fairly well, not so colourful with high points. But she's the most hardworking gal in the class that adds more points drawing other boys volunteering to help her with her work.



Eventually, no matter how hard she had worked, she didn't make it to go into Express class, but stuck with the Normal stream into her 3rd year. It was then i realize that without her seating next to me, i don't really have anybody to flex my muscle on my better than her chinese, i don't have anybody seating on my left to ease my eyes throughout the rest of days, months, years...

Just like it played in most other movies, i did the other stupid stuff like waiting take a look of her in the middle of the evening around where she lived, those 2 storey shop houses along Jalan Tenteram(now demolished), waiting @ the common exit she'll take when the school knocks off, looking for a chance to talk to her, getting her guidance, even though we're in the different class where i'm in technical she's in arts...all these silly acts... goes on for the next 2 years... even when she eventually attached to the best friend of mine at the last year of the Normal education days.

I still doesn't give up, even when i have left school, eventually goes into the working world i would still try hard to get her attention.

Unfortunately, the whole pursuit have to end as the whole Jalan Tenteram have to be demolished, and the residents living there are arranged to be moved elsewhere when it comes to the year when i was called for N.S on 1991.



Numbers of rumors circled around her. Including her mum marrying her off to her cousin in malaysia, whom she had grown up with her since she was a little kid. Or she had eventually made it to Poly, and got her new romance there. But one thing i can confirm.. is that the connection between her and my best friend doesn't continue further. Eventually my good friend then, now lost in contact, marries another gals from another school.



For 3yrs, i tried hard to get her attention from me, all ended with failures. Even when in that last round of the game, where i "show hand" bought a bunch of flowers(that time i know that rose signifies love/passion, but i find that too obiang, ended up buying a bunch of carnations instead), knocks on her residence door which is later answer by her mum... It all ended with... a pity.



Just like one of the line mentioned in the movie, 世上没有一件事是徒劳无功的。。。



Years had passed... Even though it is now 20 over years from the last time i saw her, the image of her is still very clear in my mind. I wonder does that regard as Sweet Memories...

To date, i have lost contact with most of the other classmates as well as school mates. Even though there were numbers of invitation sent to me to attend the school reunion, i didn't turn up. So we have lost all updates on her.



It was until couple of years back, in a passenger lift of the Henderson Industrial Building, came in this woman who still have the big round eyes, perky nose and that sharp chin... although the rest of her body is not "young" as before. I just couldn't help noticing her, but i can't look at her directly. The only way for me to look at her is the reflection of her looks on the reflective surface of the lift doors. I wonder... is that you?

For years, we are told by people around us, either our parents, our colleagues as well as our relatives, our kins, our love ones... to look forward and forget about the past.

It wouldn't surprise me that even though this thread may draw lots of attention, there won't be much replies as fellow brudders here may choose to forget about the past or probably putting in consideration that this topic could be read by their current partners.



Look at the bright side... wouldn't it be good if you look at what you had did in the past, be it good or bad, be it sweet or sour or bitter, learn a few stuff from the mistakes we may have done...

This is why i recommend this movie for all to see. Really worth every single cents you spent on the ticket. There are moments of laughter, there are moments of silliness, there are moments of sweet memories and lots of moments that triggers your mind to look at the good old days...



Forget about the idols that charmed the kids, just focus on the story...

My best guess is that most of you had not seen it yet... since Chinese movies in SG are often less supported by most folks.

Lame story lines, Lame actors, Lame in effects... all these adds up, less Chinese movie support. I dare to say, i'm one of such group of folks who rather spend money on hollywood produce, get the best bang of every single dollar i spend, or go for local produce, laugh and then forget...



If you had seen this [APPLE IN MY EYES], my best guess is that you would not be laughing and giggle by going OT, but really might be spending some time thinking back what crazy stuff had you done in the past during your Secondary, Tertiary school days, or even your N.S days...

Unless you're crazy over those long length taiwanese serials such as those that starred Chen MeiFeng, or Huang ShiXian as well as others... i guess you could have seen The Rookies aka 新兵日记 which had just ended it's second season couple of wks back, not really much idols in the series right?

Should you have seen the Rookies, you could had recalled your past in N.S life where it was filled with fun and bitter moments.



This film, [Apple in my Eyes] have that kind of same effect. Although the main theme of the movie circles around school days love, throughout the whole movie journey, it brings you to the next stage after secondary education, then till you're totally the independent adult...

Okay... if you hate the naggy and romance filled moments that may bored you... Have a good laughter with this film, where it's filled with numbers of sexual reference humor and vulgarities. CBs and Jerk-offs takes a certain amount of the whole movie length.



Go and see this during Monday to Wednesday... spend off just about 2 plates of Charsiu+roast meat combo plate for a tix of this film, seat down and enjoy the show, you won't regret!
