Hoot first , knew too good to be true but thought could use the dial, hands and crown and to practise to open the case. met the seller then cnn saw that it was a fake, seiko printed on the side of the case, signed seiko 5 crown, seiko 5 logo on the glass above the 6 o'clock etc. but the rest was as described by seller; couldnt set date and day but didnt mention genuine or fake. So bo pian got to honor my end of deal and protect my bay rating , got that bloody melon for $30.00 :evil: :evil: :lol:

:lol: :lol: yes I met him to pick up the watch. Well his sale post didnt claim that was a genuine watch, so I was partly to be blamed for quickly hooting an expiring auction. But i did check his feedback, cnn 100% but low count and have sold simliar one before.

So it is a lesson and a $30 melon project watch :lol: :lol: . will post some pics

Even if that's the case, u can choose not to honor by email the seller that his item is fake and retract the bid or retract his post. There's a resolution in ebay which I believe can do that tio bo..... or am I missing out on anything......

yes watchlooker, I could have walked after realizing that was not a real seiko and let ebay resolve the dispute. We know ebay resolution is not going to be quick, simple and straight forward. Thus after weighing the process and the possible unfavorable outcome of ebay resolution against the $30 and all my positive ratings, I chose to hold my end of the deal up, paid him, took the watch and walked.

Then why this thread, well, it is just to share with members that there is such a local ebayer, whether knowingly/unknowingly, sold at least one fake seiko. So beware. :)



But dont let this stop any of u from swimming in the bay :twisted: :lol: :lol:

Seller doesn't specifically say watch is genuine means you will accept it even if it turns out to be fake? Why this kind of mentality? Any watch listed on ebay is supposed to be genuine. They do not allow fake watches and selling fake watches is illegal.

I understand where u are coming from. If seller is selling a genuine watch with vague description and you did not clear your doubts before buying, it is fine to accept the watch. However, this should not apply to fake watches.

That's a major factor that I dun like to fish in the bay.... I never buy any watch from the bay :shock: .... always through shops mostly, forums, friends and trusted online site..... :evil:



U make it sound like bo pian one.... the resolution is so lousy meh... heard from various forums.... the resolution tends to side with buyer instead of seller. And what is this thing about ratings.... can anyhow put one meh.... sorry dun know how the bay works..... :?: :?:



$30 maybe a small sum.... but I had rather spend it on good food then hand it to a seller for fake goods! No offense, I did see your point though but can be done better! ;)

ebay feedback system is a cockca-nathan.... seriously begin used wrongly and abused by many many many ppl...



you can always ask ppl who know to bid on a fake item(say a 1 dollar 'non exisitence' watch strap) and later give you positive feedback...this way you want 1000 feedback also can..... lotsa big time ebayers do this while they are starting out new accounts...



but of coz it sucks for those geuinue sellers...

Osim and Big-e thanks for the tips on how to remove the crown, just got it out and put it back in successfullly. Next, will try to remove the bezel. Probably will start a new thread seeking u guys help on how to take a watch apart and put it back working again :D

bezel just use a small swiss army knife or if you got the right tool for watch bezel opening to pry open...just insert thru the bezel n case gap can riao.

Hey guys, I am back from overseas, just saw this thread, the seller had 2 watches, I bought the first one, placed a $15 max bid and won it at $12.75, thought I would be outbid for sure if it was a genuine piece.



It didnt dawn on me that I would win it initially. LOL :lol:



Then after I won it, it was too good to be true, so I asked seller if it was genuine, and as bro SCS said seller mentioned that he wasnt sure. But I suspected that it was too good to be true. Looked closely at the poorly taken photo, vaguely saw the seiko 5 logo in the glass, knew at that point that I won a lemon.



Still I decided to go ahead with the transaction because I didnt want to taint my ratings, thought I would use the strap for my other seikos when travel, or play rough sports. I thought it would be fun just taking it apart and assembling it together again, or see if I could buy a seiko movement and try fitting it into this case for fun.



Lastly, it was $12.75, or worse case, max bid $15. I couldnt be bothered.



When I met up with the seller, I did however tell him that the watch wasnt genuine and pointed out to him the various reasons why it wasnt genuine, the seiko 5 logo on the glass, the crown, the word seiko on the side of the case. We had a chat for 10 mins talking about seiko divers. He asked if I would like to buy the other watch he had listed on the bay, I politely declined.



Sorry you fell prey bro, if you need my help to complain to ebay I can testify that I did inform the seller that the watch he sold me was a imitation/fake, I did not see the 2nd watch(presume that's the one you got). However I think the case would be weak because as some other bros pointed out, the seller didnt mention that the watch was genuine. And if it was intended to find a resolution, it should have been discussed between you and the seller prior to paying for the item.



Feels sianz to get screwed, but just take it as a lesson and use this as a practice watch lor...

So from my post above, I did feel a tinge of sianz when I realise it was an imitation, but when I thought of the possibilities I could do with this watch, I felt that $12.75 was a reasonable price :)

Dont think I can prove that he knew he was selling imitations/fakes, but after I met him, definitely I told him the watch he sold me was an imitation. At that time, his auction for the other watch was still running.



Think it will be hard to prove that he knew he was selling the 2nd fake watch to SCS bro too.



1. I could only make reference to the watch I got from him as I didnt get to see the watch he sold to SCS bro.

2. It was all verbal, no hard evidence.

3. He did not list as original, and when asked about it, he claims that he didnt know(this is probably the only piece of evidence documented that it could be a fake.)



I think he sold off all his stock liao, no more watches on his store :|

Actually from another point of view,though we had 2 victims but least this made members(esp newer) more

aware of such possible fakes and happenings esp in ebay. I'm sure some bros even did some research on how exactly an original SKX007 will look like after they have seen this thread. So still an educational thread mah..



would it be possible that clearer closeup pics of these 2 fakes be taken then make it as a sticky thread(start a new one on seen fakes?)

I'm sure more new members will benefit from this.

Heres a few pics of the feiko :



First telltale sign is the seiko 5 logo in the glass. Quite hard to capture. But its above the 6 oclock position:





Next is the word seiko on the side of the case:, if you look closely the bezel insert is sunk in and the glass sticks out a fair bit, the pip(luminous ball at the bezel) looks fake and doesnt look like it will glow





Next is the dial. I know there are 2 versions, 1 is for japan domestic market only. The skx007J, the dials are almost the same apart from the dials. The japan version has the words made in Japan on the bottom left of the 6 oclock marker, at the bottom right states the movement and the dial number. Below the words "Divers 200m" there should be the words 21 jewels. This feiko missed out the 21 jewels.



There is another variant, SKX007K, this version is mainly for export. Below the 6 oclock marker would only mention the movement and dial codes. No "Made in Japan" and no "21 Jewels" under the Divers 200M.



This Feiko seems to have the 2 variants mixed up.





Here are some pics after i took the movement out:











Once you open the caseback u can tell its a fake immediately, no mention of seiko anywhere.



Lastly, the serial number is the same as SCS bro's serial number 302137.



Fakes for skx007 are quite common(found a shop selling fake skx007 pepsi bezel in malacca a few weeks back) please take extra care when buying them.

$30 for a fake seems like the going price. I'm surprised he bothered - and had the gall - to turn up to meet you. He must like living dangerously.



But, fact is he (knowingly) breached Ebay rules :evil: - and for the protection of others, should be reported. If he wants to sell fake watches, he should be doing so on some of the replica watch forums.
