Ok for the "non-homage" thing I guess it'd depend on how the custom dial design turns out right? So at least there we have some control. Screw-down crown would be a function of the base watch, which for under sgd300 limits us to the Monster (200M), SKX007/9/11/171 (200M), FrankenMonster (200M) and the less easily available SKX031/3 (100M) (did I miss any?).



If we work the custom dial around one of these selected models, the implementation could be akin to the FFF dial where forummers will just buy the dial and acquire their own base watch.



On the base watch, the SKX007 has a distinctive and time-honoured design language tracing its roots back to perhaps the 6105. The crown is not signed so that may work well for our purposes. This is also a case that is well-supported by third-party bracelet vendors.



The Frankenmonster is also distinctive, sort-of shrouded, but the size is largish and that may limit the appeal. Also, bracelet options are limited.



The Monster, in my opinion, has too many "fashion" editions and that takes away some of the appeal (for me). The SKX031 is too rolex-esque.

How about this everybody... for the base watch... i suggest using the "seikoclubsg favorite" of the year... the SNZH5x models for this forum S.E since numbers of u had bought this for modding? Also if i'm not wrong, the price is below $200 right? That should give a bigger window for other option add-ons. Such as an additional strap should fellow married/attached brudders are buying for their partners as a gift?



To me looking @ the pros-

the size is big, but acceptable to some female wrists

post customization dials should be easier and cheaper to get

wider choice of bezels, case/bracelets optional to different members...



the cons-

-the movement used, 7s36 could be a little bored to some

-using other movement may cause the price to go up by some percentage, not to forget that other movements size may not fit this casing

-married/attached partners may nag, "我老吔！又一只同款的！嫌钱多呀？？？" aka "Wah lau Ehh! Same one again? Money alot huh?"

Chances are slim (maybe even none), but might be worth a shot :D

Regarding the base watch for the SCS Watch, one major advantage of using the 007 or 009, is the large number of aftermarket parts, like Bezel Inserts, Chapter Rings, Hands, and Dials available out there.. :D



Just check out Yobokies and 10Watches.com website and you will be amazed at the variations available :mrgreen:



With a custom made Dial, and chapter rings and hands from these Vendors, we can get a truely unique SCS Watch.

Since the actual custom work is the dial, I suppose we are free to choose which SKX to mount it on - 007, 9, 11, 171. So we can all have our little bits of personalisation, united by a unique dial :)

We can space out the expenses if we choose a base watch that is mainstream and easily, affordably available, such as the SKX007 and friends. This way, the initial outlay will be for the dial, and as Roo estimated, costs below 100. At our own time, we can either mount it on an existing SKX we own, source for a used piece, or buy a new one. So no need to dish out the full sum in one shot.

Last time on bigtime's website, it said hr did custom dials for mindef, shimano, etc.

To what extent of customization I do not know. Anyone know them well enough to ask?

Wish I could buy one. I think the description might not be accurate though, the Dial says "SCE" which actually stands for Singapore Combat Engineers, not School of Combat Engineers. The Acronym for the School was "SOCE"..at least it during my Army days at SOCE (pronounced as So..See) :D



Would have been nice if they gave that out when I completed my training at the School of Combat Engineers....Sigh..fond (and not so fond) memories of my Army days just came flooding back :D

What say we just do the dial?



We're in Singapore and have access to watch makers, plenty of cheap SKX new/used, so there is no need to offer any turnkey package. Just a dial and let the bros follow-up with installation own time own target. I, like many here, already own 4 SKX, and would really just need a dial...

I think your revival is timely leh... hopefully this period bros here have some respite from work to chip in their thoughts on this. Then we can take the next 3 months to make the dials, and launch during the first year anniversary.
