Seiko Club Singapore - Watch Dial

Seiko Club Singapore - Watch Dial
Hi All

Not sure if this was ever discussed before...

Was there ever any discussion about possibly having a "special edition" Seiko Club Singapore watch Dial ?

I know that other Watch Forums, like the Seiko & Citizen Watch Forum, Equations of Time Sea 3, and the more recent Fifty-Five Fanthoms have done this.

Would be cool having one for our Singapore Site as well :D

Although, it will be a lot of work...deciding on the watch model, dial design, hands etc

Cheers

Re: Seiko Club Singapore - Watch Dial
This sort of thread has evergreen appeal, pity the previous one sort of fizzled out.

Now that we have more active members, it might be opportune to kick-start this again!

For a fact I know that we count at least two members here doing design work (c'mon mai chow keng you know who you are!)

And..... at least one who can mount dials, hands etc.... he is just missing a crystal press.

The rest of us bring our enthusiasm!!!

Too many different taste in SC. Will be really hard to decide on one design.
Re: Seiko Club Singapore - Watch Dial
for a start, I vote using the future-classic SKX007/9 as base. Strap/bracelet options are aplenty and well supported by third parties, movement is reliable, overall watch is affordable...
Re: Seiko Club Singapore - Watch Dial
R we making a dial ? or a whole watch?

Making a dial is easier i guess. Then the whole lot of us can storm Ah Goh's place to install.

Making a whole watch will be quite hard and ex.

The dial is usually matching with the watch, so I think we still hv to decide on the watch style: diver? Military? Dress? Flieger?

But I think it will most likely be diver.

If it's not too expensive, you got my vote too. Oh and yes, diver would be nice.
Re: Seiko Club Singapore - Watch Dial
What's everyone's idea of "not too expensive"?

Perhaps responses on this can include some budget indication.

not over S$1K :)
Re: Seiko Club Singapore - Watch Dial

not over S$1K :)

haha, confirm will not exceed 1k

based on our 1st initial concept of SC watch back at HWZ, it's about 400+ each based on a 007 base iirc ;)
Re: Seiko Club Singapore - Watch Dial
oh, then that's about right. From my planning experience, make your best estimatef of what you need , time or resources, or whatever, then double it. :) . That usually turns out right.
Seiko Club Singapore - Watch Dial
If this is going to be a special made and limited pc.

I m willing to pay more than 1K, but not over 1.5 thou
Re: Seiko Club Singapore - Watch Dial
Would it be a cheaper alternative to buy current in production Diver watch and get Yobokies to make the mod dial in bulk and we get k2 to change the dials for us?
Re: Seiko Club Singapore - Watch Dial
Perhaps we can also consider part of the proceeds going towards the maintenance of this forum. This will help to defray some or all of the running costs of keeping this online enclave going. I'm sure I'm not alone in feeling that this is a little more special and endearing than frequenting the global fora.
Re: Seiko Club Singapore - Watch Dial
What is the cost of maintaining the forum?
Re: Seiko Club Singapore - Watch Dial
I'm not sure, but I did sms the owner to offer contribution. He said no need, still manageable...
Re: Seiko Club Singapore - Watch Dial
Here is a proposal.

I've been thinking abt this mod idea since I finished my 6309 mod.

Thinking along the idea of a "mini darth tuna"

The watch base will be SNZE99

The dial will be the white 7s26 S.A.T dial from 10watches

The problem for me is, I prefer a date window and no minute markers (the chapter ring already hv it)

The hands can be original snze99 hands or the white plogeur hands from yobokies.

Now if this would be for a SC watch, then we can hv some text on the dial too.

That was my idea. Dunno what u guys think.

Finding a base is usually easy

it's the dial design that's most challenging ;)

a lot of these 'forum' watches are homage to swiss watches.

i figured we could do a homage to a japanese watch - hence the 'mini darth tuna' proposal

Re: Seiko Club Singapore - Watch Dial
actually, i was hoping for a 6r15. Now we got the new 4r37 movement. Just not sure if the dial can cover the subdial portion of the movement or not. What say you guys?

thats a good idea too... but i doubt you can cover the subdial.. if only the subdial was seconds
Re: Seiko Club Singapore - Watch Dial
Ok I'll just chime in with my preferences (which leans towards features that promote longevity).

- Screw-down crown, doesn't matter whether the base watch is 100M or 200M or above.

- Even-number lug size

- Non-homage, or at least not so overtly so

- screw-down caseback

- prefer with at least Date

- prefer if base watch comes with bracelet version

- prefer non-PVD; prefer stainless steel because easier to maintain and restore
Re: Seiko Club Singapore - Watch Dial
Since fellow brudder here had pointed out the key points-

- Screw-down crown, doesn't matter whether the base watch is 100M or 200M or above.

(yes!)

- Even-number lug size

(erm... ok for me)

- Non-homage, or at least not so overtly so

(yes!...defiantely)

- screw-down caseback

(yes!)

- prefer with at least Date

(erm... ok for me... with day better...depends on the movement chosen)

- prefer if base watch comes with bracelet version

(yes!)

- prefer non-PVD; prefer stainless steel because easier to maintain and restore

(erm... ok for me... depends on the dial/watch design, i would suggest "half black" bracelet with PVD middle links)

- movement?

(4r16/36 50hrs reserve movement if possible... 4r37 is still too new, initial cost price could be too high, 7s36 auto could be too common, but at least initial cost could be lower than 6r15/16)
Seiko Club Singapore - Watch Dial
Thanks for the heads up herz. The cost of the forum is still manageable at the moment.

I will give a shout out if I ever need any help :)

Back to the watch topic. I'm thinking if it's possible to take the watch and flip the dial, ending up with a 10 o'clock lefty destro ;)

It's also good to define the budget now. Since most of us has ordered the FF dial before I think it should be capped at max of $40-60.

As for the base watch, it should be $200-300.

Add in modding and misc stuff, it will be probably the range of $400.

Noting the FF mod was below 300 ? So we need to choose our base watch carefully.

I rather we can reach out to more members with affordable options than limit to a few only.

Or we can choose two base, one lower range, say the typical seiko 5 series and one higher, a skx.

Well put our thinking caps together, we definitely be able to come out with a good forum watch or two ;)

Re: Seiko Club Singapore - Watch Dial
i suggest a black base with lime green hands (if we can find any).

I know this is a weird contribution, but that's how the forum's base colour and font goes anyway.

Won't take offense if this gets thrown out the window :P

$0.02 :D

Re: Seiko Club Singapore - Watch Dial
Perhaps , if someone has a contact for making custom dials, we can start the ball rolling by having those who have dial ideas, submit their designs ?

While the dial designs are being done, we can than also think about which watch is to be the base :D

 now we r getting somewhere.

Just needed to throw one idea and now we hv shortlisted 'must-have' features.

I agree with all those things Herz bro mentioned. But I think in reality, not all will be met.

The non-homage and screwdown crown will be tough.

1. We r all influenced by other watches and I bet our design will be based on something

2. For under sgd300 might be tough to get a Seiko with screwdown. I think.
Re: Seiko Club Singapore - Watch Dial
Big-e, doesn't the skx007 and friends fit the bill? Also, there's the 100M SKX031 and friends (which are too Rolex-esque for me though).

Bro. Singapore running out of SKX031K liao. Now probably left w SKX033K. HFTL if wanna use SKX033K ? Hey, Blue dial is not too bad ya. At least, this SC forum shun away from the usual Black dial n not really a homage to any design cos it's in Blue. What do u guys think ? :D

Skx007 does fit the bill. But Skx007 mods are very common that's all.

Seiko Sinn? Would that work?

We can put a 6r15 into it without much problems.
