Re: Seiko MM300 VS Rolex DSSD
Nice read! Can't disagree with his conclusion. A lot of features in the dssd I can do without - hrv, 3900m WR, even the micro adjustment clasp. Problem for me is, a lot of MM300 features are meaningless to me too. If I also screw the cache that comes with the MM300, I can really live with "just" 200m, or if my past few decades of life is anything to go by, 50m. I need to brave the ocassional hand washing and rain. Accuracy is important to me, conceptually at least. I'm not alone here in owning multiple time pieces, and change my "daily beater" so often that when inaccuracy sets in, that piece would already be rotated off my wrist. So really an SKX diver is by this logic more than what I need.

But despite owning (too) many SKX, I still want the sumo, preferably one in each color like MP man. Because it hacks and winds, is well built and I should get them while I can. I also find myself increasingly attracted to the MM300, and suspect that may come even earlier than the sumo. After all the MM300 has a much better movement, is 300m, and allows me to pop 2.6k and still screw haute horology. But as I muse, I think I can better screw haute horology with the spring drive Seiko diver.

For me, after spending beyond a certain amount, brand cache IS important. What this amount is though is of course peculiar to each one of us. I think my threshold currently is a gently used spring drive diver (love the PR gauge), which I'll be hunting for in hong kong year end.

It is quite addictive to see the PR needle move as you wind up the watch and not to mention the total smooth gliding second hand due to the electronic speed control.

Yes it is indeed! I've no hands on experience with the SD diver, but the IWC BP is like this. Like pumping petrol.
