Watchlooker bro, the GMT hand, how does it work? Like Rolex Explorer 2?

The date change follows which time display?

The more I think about it, the more I feel that the 600m SD is suitable for me (early symptoms of poison). I like the dive watch form factor, but use two time zone functions regularly. Then got fetish for power reserve meter..... :(

SD600 is no doubt, a fine looking watch but it's titanium & altho it's not as light as a Ti Sammy, the weight is still fairly light when worn, if you're used to heavy watches then this piece might be a different take ;)

There are two ways of setting the GMT hand, one as a 24hr indicator and other as a dual time indicator. The time difference adjustment is interrelated with the date display and am sure u knew it. The date can be adjust without stopping the watch to the GMT of oversea time different from local time to reflect the oversea date. So, in short, the date change can follows either local or GMT time display.

The power reserve indicator is a nice touch, winds a few turns nia can easy go full charge.... :D

SD600 is no doubt, a fine looking watch but it's titanium & altho it's not as light as a Ti Sammy, the weight is still fairly light when worn, if you're used to heavy watches then this piece might be a different take ;)


Still got some weight even if it is a Ti.... I'm used to heavy watch too.... somehow this SD ti is different from the other ti..... dun know why but still can feel some weight..... :shock:

For the Rolex 3185/3186 GMT movements, the GMT hand is used to show home time, eg Singapore time.

The date change is pegged to the main hour / minute hands.

When traveling to a different time zone, say London, the time at destination is set by setting the hour hand to the destination time, so for London the hour hand is moved back by 7 hours. The GMT time will continue to show Singapore time. The date change will now follow London time. The date wheel can move backwards. When I fly back home, I just move the hour hand forward by 7 hours.



Is the 600m SD the same?

Wow, that's interesting, from my interpretation of using the ETA 2893, we set main time as home and the GMT hand as 2nd or destination time zone, as the GMT hand is independent of the main hand, we will always set the GMT hand.



But if I want to adjust like you mentioned, moving the main time as destination time, the GMT hand follows.



Anyway, it's my first watch with true GMT features, my other GMT watch is a fixed 24-hr hand with bezel as the 2nd time zone :lol:



So it sounds like the Rolex GMT makes timezone adjustment for travelling easier and the date is correctly reflected too.

Yes, the 3185/6 movement is quite easy to use, and in practice very useful. I had to travel to two time zones over three days recently (GMT +1, then to GMT +3), and getting the correct time was a simple tweak of the hour hand. The date won't be messed up. at the same time the GMT hand is a quick reference of Singapore time, and allows me to time my calls back home, and helps with managing my sleep also. This movement also hacks only when setting the minute hand - setting hour hand the timekeeping continues.

I went to superchrono just now to see if he had a SD600m. Bo. Only mm300 and a sbbn015. If the SD600m has a GMT feature like the 3185/6, I'll buy one, then it can replace my black E2 as the travelling watch.

No, I mean I'll buy one if the GMT function conforms to my expectations. I was hoping superchrono would have one on display for me to feel. Whether I buy from Davis would be determined by mainly the discount he can offer. If I buy one it will likely be from Kowloon. :mrgreen:

Wah... I only knew about 3185 movt nia... not sexpert in rollies.... But all the while I only set the GMT to reflect oversea so it is new to me to set the GMT to local and the hr/min to oversea...... :shock: I learned something new liaoz.... :D



SD600 should be able to do it.... I'll confirm with you again when I try it tomorrow nite. ;)

It makes sense to have the main hands display local time (i.e. the time of the country you are in), because we need to attend meetings etc etc, so will need to be able to tell proper time. The GMT hand at a glance gives a rough sense of the time of the day back home.



Waaah I very excited leh, can't wait for your report !!!! If it is 3185/6 style then ho seh liao !!!
