Wow, do you mind snapping a full straight on view. Like to see if there's any contrast around the sub dials contours.
It feels flat like 2d from this angle, trying to make comparison with the other presage, example:

The contours isn't that deep, so making the markers help define the contours, making it more balance.

It's not very obvious when viewed straight on, only obvious when it's reflecting light. The previous photo was quite straight on, here's 1 when it's reflecting light.
