Suggest: Watch for father

Suggest: Watch for father
Hi

I'd like to get a watch for my father but am unsure what would be good.

He is retired, spends a lot of time outdoors on boats with nets and fishing all the time. He's usually dressed in a beret cap and jeans.

Would like something that makes him look cool but can survive his brutal activities.

Can you suggest a watch? Preferably Japanese.
Re: Suggest: Watch for father
Water resistant is high on the list.

Non leather straps.

I think a functional watch will be any divers, then it depends if you need other complications like chronograph, GMT...
Re: Suggest: Watch for father
Skx009.

The faded pepsi bezel insert will look nice once it gets super seasoned.

Or a Casio GShock, GLS range with tidegraph :)
Re: Suggest: Watch for father
No need. His eyesight is bad

Nets? Drift or casting. Those seiko 5 military type. Slim n no sharp edges.

My eye sight not that good too and I like the Orient mako XL (EM75) big (44mm) easy to read. Very comfortable and inexpensive. Don't think he wants to wear an expensive watch to cast for fish.
Re: Suggest: Watch for father
A Casio Rangeman in olive colour?
Re: Suggest: Watch for father
Old people wear digital casio look a bit weird right?

How old is your dad? He doesn't sound THAT old, I mean he can cast for fishes and that is no easy feat
Re: Suggest: Watch for father
60 something already. He's got a gang into boats and fishing. All same age one.
Re: Suggest: Watch for father
Citizen promaster range is a good competitor for the SKX series.

Another thing to note is that some old people prefer the convenience of quartz over automatics...

I bought for my uncle an auto once, he wear without screwing down the crown... LOL.
Re: Suggest: Watch for father
Mako XL or Ecozilla. Something different from what I see for people in their 60s?

Thanks for the suggestions

Totally agree, old people prefer quartz. They don't like to do manual winding.
Re: Suggest: Watch for father
My retired dad have a few seikos and seiko perpetual watches.

For everyday use, he wears the seiko 5s.

FHFL, Go buy one! :) to be honest, Seiko Kenetics are brilliant choices. Mr. Goh has got a few pieces less than $200. Really BFB.
Re: Suggest: Watch for father
If he's outdoors most of the time, and fishing/boating is his kind of stuff, would suggest one of those solar divers.

SNE107, SNE279, SNE293, SNE295

Or those solar chronograph divers:

SSC015, SSC017, SSC019, SSC021

They are not that pricey, convenience of quartz but with the presence of an automatic. And being divers, will generally be plenty durable for his uses. ;)

I was also looking at the solar divers. I wonder if they will 'age' well like a pair of denim jeans. The bezels are quite awesome.
