Recommendation for Seiko Travel Watch
Hi everyone,



Looking to get a Seiko with a automatic movement and world time feature. I've seen a few like the SRP127 and also the Seiko 5 50th anniversary SRP 435/437 types. Basically this is more for a travel watch for me, so I've been thinking between such watches with world time/GMT features.



Any recommendations? Budget preferably below 1k.

In my opinion, currently modern Seiko below 1k with real GMT function will be the kinetic series, the prospex kinetic GMT divers and the older Sportura kinetic GMT sports watches.



If automatic, highly recommend the orient starseeker...

Yup, for the current crop of watches, new / NOS, and affordable, the Seiko SUN series should be what you're looking at.



The SRP range are not true "GMT" in that they rely on the bezel for you to turn and match the required timezone. You cannot read it off just like that.



The SUN range is the only affordable range I can think of that's analogue in Seiko's watches. It has an extra GMT hour hand to indicate desired alternate timezone. Not so sure if it has the GMT 'hack hour' function though ( traditional GMT automatics allow you to adjust the hour hands without stopping the seconds hand ).

You could consider the Citizen Nighthawk (if it's still avail).

It's great for travel:

- real gmt

- wr200m

- 22m lugs, looks great on bracelet or strap for formal and casual setting

- not so thick, so it can fit under your work shirts.

Sounds like a good option.



But its a 42.5mm case though. So may need to give that some consideration too.

Thanks for the feedback guys, will look into the SUN series. I'm actually leaning on the SRP435 because of the nice bezel color but yes there is a slight hassle to having to turn the bezel for timezone.



If I were to purchase the watch, is K2 the place to go to? Because I've read a lot about it in the forum, and I realize the typical boutique stores carry very limited Seiko watches. Was wondering where and how everyone gets their watches here?

I actually owned the world time srp for a while, it's useless...the time I need to turn the bezel and calculate the time zones, I might as well just check on my phone. Plus the bezel action is very mushy, nothing like a diver bezel, very cheap feeling.



So for actual use as a travel watch, the SUN spotura or prospex watches are far better. Or as mentioned Orient Starseeker. All great sub 1k GMT.

If the watch you're looking for is there then K2 will be a good choice, otherwise our dear Mr. Goh cannot promise you on the incoming stock best bet is give him a call and let him know you're looking for the new prospex kinetic because sometimes he can't remember the reference number.
