Folding bike recommendations

Folding bike recommendations
Want to buy a folding bike for personal use, mainly on roads, not for trail. Budget is max $500-$600. Folding as it will make it easier to store at home when not in use and also to put in car boot if want to drive to somewhere else to cycle.



I am a tall and bui bui guy so it needs to be sturdy enough as well.



Was looking at a Dahon Route..besides this any other recommendation? Any folding bike gurus? Where to buy cheaper ah?

Dahon is a good choice. Yes My Bike Shop is a good place for foldies, they got Lambo and Ferrari there too.

Fwah went to a few bike shops over the weekend...very discouraged leh, when all the shop owners/staff see me nia, all recommend me to buy a full size non-folding road or mountain bike rather than a folding one...rationale is too tall and too bui....folding bike will be uncomfortable to ride..

So now i am torn between folding or non-folding...



Is the Scott brand for bikes good?

All my friends who started off with folding bikes, switch to mountain or road bikes down the road after a year. So see if you want to start small end big or just jump into it

Scott is a good brand, hv a wide range. There is a folding mountain bike.......Ranger brand.

Folding bike are usually for leisure rides, serious bikers would prefer road or mountain bikes.

Its a good start.



Been cycling for the most part of the past 20 years. One of the only things out there that can help you burn loads of calories without risks of joint injuries.

Find some leisure groups to cycle with. It will help keep you motivated. ;)

What's your height and weight?

My friend more than 100kg and she is riding a Brompton no problem can take her weight.

When I got into cycling again, told myslef a foldie would do. After 1.5 years I have now a road and a mountain bike. Gone are the foldies.

Just bought a cheap folding bike (Urata) this evening for my daughter to learn cycling.



I would like to recommend Seng Bee Bicycle Shop. The shop owner reminds me of Mr Goh of K2, perhaps not as charismatic as Mr Goh but he is a honest$ guy.



A peep at the counter revealed a Campagnolo crank, omg, I turned to the shop owner, whom I knew since 1988 and told him that he had upgraded.

However, he told me that only his son knows how to instal Campy parts. I also saw Focus bikes in the shop but I know that one can order other brands from him even you don't see it in the shop. I ordered a Fuji road bike from him years back.



Lastly, getting onto the bike and riding it brought back some good old feelings.

Got a bike shop near my place also same same, when the younger generation takes over, all the branded stuff will appear. But the Urata or Dura market bike or children bike is still the bread and butter of the shop. They also got a road bike team, which can be very rowdy on Sunday morning after their ride.
