Sweep of second hand for Spring Drive models

Hi all Gurus out there.



I have read loads of comments on the smooth sweep of the second hand of Spring Drive models with many waxing lyrical and practically held spellbound by this beauty of mechanical marvel. I have seen the sweep and followed it with great interest and furious hunger...but...I don't quite get it..



What follows may be tantamount to blasphemy to many devout fans of the Spring Drive..but..doesn't a simple quartz movement do that seamless sweep too?



So perhaps those who have the privilege to own a Spring Drive care to share their fascination of the smooth sweep with the rest of us philistines who still haven't got it...or just me.. ;)

I don't have spring drive but think it's therapeutic looking at it unlike nervous jittery 21000 bph. :mrgreen:

I just bought 3 Hoseki clocks with sweeping hands. No fish prawn also good.

But that is the beauty of mechanical movements where the tick tock counts. The higher beat rates ones do go very much smoother especially the 36000 high beats but to me it is this little tick in the hands that makes the movement. But I do have to agree on the therapy of the gliding the hands to quote bro Lunarin79.

My point exactly in that these affordable prawns are fishy enough so why eat shark's fin?

I had seen those clocks with 'gliding hand' but would like to know which are the quartz watches have those as well?

Very good question. I think I have seen some before but can't be sure. Any gurus out there can give light to this?

Have to look for transistor watches. Personally i love the sweeping second hand as well.. so went to search high and low for a silent sweep with lume seiko clock. It is easy to find other brands with this 2 functions. But at that time when i was looking for it, it was quite hard to find. Still looking for transistor watch though. :D

First, I'm not a guru, so whatever I say stands to be corrected by the real gurus. :oops:



There are quartz clocks with sweeping hands, but not watches, because such a movement is very power consuming, & the battery needed must have high power. Clocks use AA batteries, which provides enough juice to last a while. If used in quartz watches, you probably need to change battery every month. :shock:



I have seen a Seiko quartz chronograph before, with ticking seconds hand in small dial at 6-oclock, but the long chrono seconds hand does the sweep. I guess Seiko assumes no owner would leave the chrono constantly running, so the battery will not run out easily if the chrono function is only activated once in a while?



My quartz clocks with sweeping hands do need more frequent battery change than ticking ones...

I have it on good authority that the bulova accutron does sweep. Need to see any other modern ones do so too.

I am no guru myself, but i think it wont be as bad as changing batteries so often.
