GS vs ROLEX

Re: GS vs ROLEX

"balzebub71"

To be honest the only GS I would spend so much money on would be the anti magnetic quartz GS and perhaps a high beat GS. For SD I would be happy with more entry level model like the SD tuna or MM600. In terms of styling they are actually very pedestrian and safe. I guess my max budget for a seiko or GS would be 6 to 8k

Re: GS vs ROLEX
Sometimes I feel Seiko only markets to the WIS, which is 10% of the population expecting 5% to buy. Rolex markets to 100% of the population but only 10% of the can buy.

I only hope can own either one in the future.
I think if SEIKO could put the word "CHRONOMETER" onto the faces of their GS maybe it would help to market the range better.

But I did read in a past article somewhere that the Japanese are not permitted to do that. Am I correct?

You r right. Only Swiss watches with COSC is permitted to use the word chronometer.
I thought older GS vintage also have "chronometer"?

Re: GS vs ROLEX

That's the reason why I don't ask for opinions or even share with my colleagues my friends anymore when they realize I'm going to spend thousands to buy a couples of Japanese made Seiko , they just shrugged it off by saying Aiya jipun watch nia lah , you go spend thousands for it , I was a kong kum fellow to them , even my family members , I'm not going to tell them the actual price what I paid for my jap made watches when is due to arrived for me to receive it.

There are always people around us which don't really appreciate Japanese make watch , to them they're all Casio !

I can only say it depends who our audience are ..

Simple. I'm THE audience of MY watch. I'm THE one who looks at it more than anyone else. The watch serves ME by telling ME the time. I'm THE one who knows what's inside more than the ah sohs & ah pehs.

The watch community is relatively small. If we are debating on the account of common folks' perception of watches, well yes, Rolex is deemed as the Crème de la Crème to them. Majority of non WIS would challenge on the sole purpose of a watch, which is to tell time. If their smart phones or a regular digital timepiece (below 50 perhaps) is able to precisely able to tell what time is lunch, why would they spent countless buying otherwise.

But if we were to streamline it in WIS terms, you know and I know, Seiko GS more than often, gives their European rivals a run for their money. Be it craftsmanship, precise movement or ecstatic appeal, it doesn't lose out or so to speak better than what other brands have to offer.

Ultimately, like what the other bros have pointed out, it boils down to your individual preference. Judge not what others see you, but of how of yourself. True joy is being able to enjoy what you love and wear. If others say otherwise, you can always ask them to Fxxx off.

Re: GS vs ROLEX
Btw. Just wanted ask here instead create new thread. Among gmt2,explorer2 and siubmariner, only explorer2 has 42mm right? The gmt2 and submariner at the moment are still 40mm? Anyone got solid information submariner or gmt2 got 42mm coming? I remember reading somewhere submariner coming 42mm but people commented is a hoax.
