Hi Bros,



Since we are all here for the love of watches, I will like to understand from everyone if there is any intention of passing on a watch as heirloom to your next generation?



I am married for a year and without kids, but I am already planning to source for a watch that I can pass down to my kid(s).



Currently on my shortlist will be:



1) Rolex DJ (Roman White dial)

2) Grand Seiko SBGH022 (Rose Gold)



I will prefer to pass down a dress watch as I feel it is more suitable. Doesn't have to be expensive but suitable. (Cannot be a Camo G-Shock right?)



My wife says it is too early to think about these things...

But I do it for the massive love for my family, since my late dad did not pass on any stuffs to us due to his sudden "Goodbye".



I wonder if any bros here has given a thought about this and will be planning to do so, can share your intended heirloom watch with us all? :D

I was also thinking of a rolex datejust...



currently thinking of getting a pair so my wife and I can each wear 1 and pass it down later in life :)

I like the idea of passing down heirloom watch.. A very meaningful gesture from the older to the younger generation.

I've may pass some of my watches to my son, but I don't think he'll appreciate that. I just given him one of my early Seiko Kinetic which I put on a new crystal and new battery. He still prefer his casio digital.

Heirloom does not mean expensive things but imho it means something that represents the sentiments and love of the older generation to their progeny. Something that have meaning to that generation for the next genration to behold and hopefully cherish.



It does not matter whether the next generation likes what you leave behind. It should only matter that you want to leave something behind. Of course if they have the same likes it would be better.



I have rings left by my father which I do not wear but keep to pass on. I have watches which does not cost much but which I will leave behind as a keepsake and hopefully my decedents will be able to keep them intact and pass them on if they want to.



Hopefully, each generation will add stuff to this collection accordingly to their likes and one day, my family will have a varied collection of heirlooms to enjoy.



Meanwhile... keep collecting to the best of your ability. Cheers.

Not really. Like music, when CDs and digital music first came out everyone said that will be the doom of records. But as time goes by, more of the yound are now returning back to vinyl as quality still counts. Artistry still counts. So there will always be people who will enjoy a fine piece od craftsmanship like that found in a watch. Just my 2 cents.

Never too early to prepare for the future. I'm sure you will have kids soon. Your choices of watches to pass down is ok. Is really up to one's opinion on what he intends to pass down, be it a dress watch, a diver, or in this caes, a Camo G-Shock. :mrgreen:

So, you have learned a lesson from your dad. Not saying to ignore what your wife say, but I think you are doing the right thing. When my dad passed away, he managed to pass down his stuff to us. Unfortunately, his beloved watches wasn't passed on to me. :lol:

Yes, I have thought about it, I for one also not having kids, was planning to pass on to my nephews and nieces. Well, most of my watches are Seikos and mainly divers, so I guess they will have to be content with that! :mrgreen:
