May be sending a watch with box overseas. First time that i am doing something like this. Any bro here experienced? The more i read up about it, the more confused i become. Any idea :



1. What kind of documentation do i need to prepare?



2. It appears that watches are not covered by extended liability claims or something? How to i insure the watch so that should it be lost or damaged in transit, a claim can be made for the value? What info i can find on various courier company and speedpost webpage is confusing, the way i read it, it is like no claims allowed on watches?

There is limited liability from all forms of post from my understanding

1) DHL - No insurance for watches, should be similar to Fedex

2) FedEx - Max USD$1K (Please check this as last I did which was a while back was that), have to print form (their website) and fill up a few pieces.

3) TNT/UPS - No XP and IMO better not to use. Just personal.

4) Singpost/EMS - You can buy insurance based on amount. Not sure what the limited amount becomes but if USPS can work with SG Post to insure up to USD$2500, I believe that maybe SIngpost can also offer that amount of insurance. Its not cheap though. If not I think Singpost related only insures up to $100.



The documentation should be from their websites for the 1st 2. Mind you, I never ship before for selling purposes but for repairs so just personal experiences. You can call to ask them which would be alot more accurate than what most of us here can give unless someone has sold sending watches. But again, best is personal experience IMO. :D

Depending on the cost of the watch, I have sent by:



- Registered Mail, cheapest but takes about 12 days to get to UK, cannot be tracked. Once, I used Registered Mail the buyer claimed he never received the watch, so maybe this option is not very safe.



- EMS, cost a bit more but will reach in about 5 working days and it can be tracked. But SingPost wants to know what is inside the package, how much is the item, is it new etc etc. Many many questions.



- FedEx, cost the most of the 3 options, but will take about 5 days and you can track it all the way. My preferred option, although the most expensive. You can ask the buyer to split the cost involved, but mostly, I just absorb it.



I have sent by FedEx about 10 times overseas to USA, UK & Europe. Cost a bit more, eats into your price but you can be certain that it will get to the buyer. I prefer this option. My last watch sold, I posted to USA, paid about $68 for FedEx (economy rate), sent on Monday, buyer received on Thursday. Also, you MUST remember to keep the weight below 0.5kg, any heavier, the price goes up.

If you are shipping overseas, pls consider paying extra attention to the following:

1) this really goes without saying but I think it is worthwhile emphasising - is the buyer real or a scammer? Better do your due diligence checks, any mistake, the person that lose out is you.

2) insurance. who is to be responsible? if no insurance, and the watch is lost/damaged, who is responsible? Best to agree on all these issues first before sending anything out.



I am not sure if SingPost etc allows shipping of watch. Somehow I am always under the impression that they do not, and will not cover any loss. Best you check with the individual shipper.

I usually use FedEx/ParcelPro.

Thanks for all the advise. Yes signpost does provide full insurAnce for extra $$. Need to provide commercial invoice with the price paid for the watch. And need to declare as such or might be stuck in customs at the other end. I might send by speedpost EMS or DHL as I have a corp discount. My buyer has agreed to handle any customs or duties or tAxes on his end. Am still undecided as I am taking a watch from him as a partial trade too....So many things can go wrong..plus I will be hit by GST as well

It's Good to know information , likewise if we do buy watches in overseas say eBay , ship from Europe former Russia federation state Belarus , using EMS express , normally how many days will reach Singapore ?

Will the risk much higher than other European state compare to Russian federation Belarus ? Heard that these federation state custom very problematic on importing , but for export ?

Anyone here got experience buying or shipping out on these Russia federation state ?

Bought watches from Russia, Ukraine, Belarus before, no issues.



EMS is usually fast but in my experience those sellers just use registered air mail, take a couple of weeks.

Thanks it's Good info to share your experience deals with those Russian federal state.

At one point , in my case I was coming close to bought a vostok seaman from one of those seller in one of those federal state .

But too much googling makes me really feel uneasy about the whole thing and take a step back , no deal .

It was during that time I give up on the vostok and choose to go for my next hit list , my first ever Orient 04002 world time panda dial .



Do you or any bros / sis over here have experience with those Vostok ? Does Anyone here own one of these vostok or have any hands-on experience before ?

So does it mean they will call you up and pay even if just a used watch ? Thanks it's good to know information.

As long the total amount declared is more than $400.



So it's really tricky to send watches overseas for repair, not sure how customs will handle it and we can avoid paying double tax.

Thanks man , this is all very useful information for those who consider buying watches online or overseas , these information can allow us to have better understand about importing our watches from overseas .
