Innovative and sophisticated Watch
Notice that most watch collector tends to favor Automatics. How about those innovative watches?

In my recent journey into watch collection, after collecting several watches, I find my taste in watches bias to watches with latest innovation and sophistication. My quest to acquire a Sumo or a MM300 has been postone or cancelled



In my recent aquition, I bought a Casio atomic, world time, perpetual calendar watch. And now drooling over a new citizen Satellite watch,

Nice the astron and satellite wave from Seiko and citizen are interesting watches. But too complicated for uncle like me to operate. I will probably need to keep a copy of the user manual in my phone at all times haha. Maybe I am old fashioned but I can't bring myself to spend that kind of money on a high tech watch? For me a TC HAQ with perpetual calendar and GMT is the ultimate liao.

for me, if I need a particular function for eg; GPS, then I will look at the specific models available.



in the end, it boils down to individual users & what's their need for a watch.



No doubt a watch with GPS is cool but if am a desk diver and travels once or twice a year, I don't need that function.



I'm a Day/Date/Time person so most of my watches has got to have either one of these functions.



But of course there are some watches which have neither Date nor Day/Date.



Ultimately my innovative watch might be one which have Day/Date/Perp Calender and hopefully it can be a mechanical & oh well, i doubt I can afford any of these :lol:

True, took me sometime to read the casio manual just to set the time, and setting the perpetual calendar is like solving some puzzle.. But for me that's the fun. I also uncle liao.

Individual taste indeed, which I just want to find out if there's any watch enthusiast who is like me who had develop a taste more for 'high tech' watches.

Point noted on the resale value. I guess I have to set a lower budget on these watches, for those of keepsake.

I just googled on what is a one hand watches. Lucky I'm a trained engineer, and familiar in reading dial gauges.

Yeah, the new Citizen drew my eye as well when I saw it in ablogtowatch. Much better than the Astron monsters that Seiko have released in the past.



For Seiko, I am not sure if anyone noticed but the problem in SG is that their lineups like the Ananta and Astron are not exactly up front and center with the general populace in the mainstream retail areas. You have to go slightly out of the way to look for a Seiko model that is priced higher - probably due to the fact alot of the old watch shops are in areas where the younger crowd don't hang out.



At least with Casio and Citizen, you have City Chain in the major malls...



Then again, the number of Singapore watch shops (especially the old shops in Chinatown area...) that have an international retail presence via the Internet is pretty amazing. Guess they find it more profitable to sell/ship to collectors overseas rather than the finicky Singaporean consumer. :D

Now a days, i see that City Chain do carry some JDM pieces like the SARB017 Alpinist (which they tagged at 900 plus MSRP), they also carry an assortment of Citizens, but i think i will never buy from them as they usually only offer 10-20% discount. The situation is even worse for higher end Seikos and Citizens..really no "good" place to shop for them here in SG. Which is why i guess whatever Seiko or Citizen i wear, people around me will always just remark...Oh it's a Seiko.
