Hi Guys



New to this forum, unsure if i can post this. I'm intending to propose to my gf and I decided to propose to her with a diamond ring and a grand seiko watch. To mark this occassion, I would also be getting one, to make it a couple watch and make this special day unique. My gf is quite petite, but she like big watches and loves the design of grand seiko (the others like omega, longines) dont fancy her.



In this regard, I would like to seek your recommendations and where would be good to buy / view the watches.

Congrats but a word to the wise, build up your gifts over time. Managing expectations is one of the keys to longevity in any relationship :D



That being said, I think you would have state your or her preference in the GS, sporty? Dress? Automatic? Quartz? Spring Drive?



I am no expert as there are a number of well versed gurus here but narrowing the field would be helpful for spot on advice.

Well, you,ll never know how the older generation sees it :) better to be safe than sorry don,t you think? Besides, i,d think she,ll prefer a XL diamond ring :)

Any idea where would sell it at reasonable prices?

If you are only looking at Grand Seiko, there are a few places you can get locally. Seiko boutique have them. I bought mind recently from Big Time. If I am not wrong, a forum seller by the name of shaggy or something sells them as well.



Anyway, my thought of a Grand Seiko for ladies. Not sutiable. The design is too old fashion. It is more for men. I showed mine to my wife the other day saying that she can wear it as the size is small enough. She commeted the watch too "ah Pek" :x

Of course lah, yours is a recreation of a 60s watch, limited edition, sure a bit ah pek. :D



That being said, the GS style to me is one of simple but yet sophisticated elegance. Understated but yet just beneath that a sheen of brilliance.



I would go down to Jem or Vivo to have a good look at the displays. Dont be afraid to ask for the plastic cover to be peeled off for a better look. Oh yeah bring a loupe. It will rock your world when you see the amazing detail and workamnship.



However, I do agree that it would take a different category of woman to appreciate the GS. Then again, maybe thats why the thread starter wants a GS for his wife to be as he knows he has one helleva woman! :D

Even i'm a teochew, my mum as well as other senior relatives had mentioned to me before, not to buy watches as gifts to someone else as the word 表 rhymes with 裱 in Mandarin as well as Cantonese. Although modern day folks may not be too concern of such taboo, we have to shun away from mis-understandings from the conservatives, much more when it comes to a special day concerning love ones.

Hence, I would consider that Brud.Jeryl is... in a certain way... correct...
