Affordable Seiko automatic chronographs?
Hi ppl :) I'm fairly new to the watch scene and is thinking of buying a seiko for birthday. I've never owned a mechanical so really want to try one. But I also love chronographs.. Does seiko make mechanical chronographs for around $500? I don't mind stretching my budget but not too much cos no money.. :cry:



The seiko chronos I see in Singapore are almost all quartz movement..

Would I've better luck getting one in Japan instead?

seiko auto chronos, with a budget of $500, your best bet is either a vintage 6138 or a 6139 chrono.



but there are tonnes of aftermarket chronos out there, best is to read up more infos about these vintage chronos before pulling the trigger.



The current auto chronos are in 2k+ or above range :)

Set aside a budget of $500 to $1k for a good condition vintage Seiko chrono. For modern Seiko chrono, you need to set aside $4k to $$10k for a new piece and at least $2.5k for a used piece.

Though I'm quite disappointed a new one can't be had for less than a thousand..

Are there shops in Singapore specialising in second watches? Or is eBay a better bet? For vintage watches I am worried about old parts that need replacement but are hard to find..

Modern Seiko chronograph so ex? I thought they can be had for around 2k to 2.5k ?

Maybe with 10% controlled discount or lesser... a little above 5k or so... Saw a few Auto-Chronos @ the VIVOCITY boutique, prices are visible there... discount haven't execute. Quite ex... very true...

Which website?



I know seiya has one 8r chrono which is selling usd 1.8k+. Still workouts to be sgd2.3-2.4k if u kena gst and credit card rates.



So the estimation of sgd2.5k is about right.



I'm sure you can find lower prices on Rakuten, but u still need to factor in shipping, Rakuten svc fees and then gst, etc

Apart from seiko, any good quality auto chronos? I would want to keep this buy for as long as possible. Are seiko quartz chrono reliable over the years? Or at least easily and cheaply serviceable?

Fr mechanical chrono imo hard to get below 1k

Unless 2nd hand. The other cost effective brand is steinhart but chrono all abv 1k too

Unless you don,t mind chinese movement then you can consider sea-gull

There are under 1k with good ELABORE grade, un-decorated movement Auto-Chronos in the world of online retail. But... name very ulu, and no retaining in value should one fine day you want to flip. U want?

This ulu label comes with 5yrs warranty, a certainly good attraction. But don't look good on... looks. Design pretty boring to some.



However, back to the topic where we're onto Jap make with Jap movement, any mention of other makes will perhaps... bring more detests... So...

Let's stick to the vintage Seikos and Citizen for the moment...

Vintage Seiko 6138 or 6139 are automatic chrono. Range from 200 odd to 1K depending one condition, more sought after ones arr the bullheads.
