RANT: You ever meet this kind of buyers online?
I was trying to sell this brand new Laco pilot watch online. Got one buyer pm me, initially agreed on the prices. I still give him abit of small discounts to bring him to close the deal. Then he started telling me all kinds of story that even my watch is new, I have kept it for nearly 2 1/2 years so he was worried that the movement might need servicing. I told him new watches do not need servicing and even when you buy new one only. It does not guarantee that the movement is fresh from the factory and encased into the watch. After telling me all kinds of story, he says that he have to factor in servicing cost and wanna deduct $50 from the watch. I am not selling a IWC but just a $400 Laco. One shot asked for $50 discounts.



I told him that you haven even get the watch you are predicting that it will be faulty. Like that better buy a G-Shock which do not need any serving. Then I told him that I will keep that watch for my cat and not selling it anymore. :twisted:

Common la, I have had some "interesting" encounters too when selling a few of my watches away. In this case buyer was just trying to knock the price down somemore..



Actually hor, don't flame me but listed price in OP's sales thread is on the high side for 2.5 year old watch?

Back in 2006 I sold a rolex and gave the buyer extra $200 off. But the problem is the Laco is already a cheap watch. $400 minus $50 is like 15% off liao. Ask him go and buy brand new if he worries so much. $400 Laco and not $4000 IWC.

Willing buyer, willing seller. If the buyer is unreasonable, then don't sell to him. Blacklist him so that you never have to deal with him. IMHO, the price of the goods does not preclude people from trying to get a better deal. So just put it down as experience and move on..

Actually if big ticket items then understandable. Assuming if you were to find a brand Z series Rolex GMT 2 at the AD now. Can you tell him to discount additional 1k to factor in the servicing charges? :lol:

As long as willing buyer willing seller, everything should be fine. Mutual respect is important and severe low balling should be avoided. If doubtful, don't buy. If want to buy, don't doubt. A bit of negotiation should be fine, unless otherwise stated.

Problem is he asked for abit of discounts i already compromised. Enough for his to take mrt and eat a subway meal. Then he think liao want get discounts for a promo airasia ticket to KL.

buyers asking for discounts is normal and as what bro lunarin79 mentioned, it seems $50 is the minimum nowadays.



if you can live with a $50 loss then go ahead.

If you are not willing to lose, then put price is FIRM in your post.

Either way, you can't stop people from asking, nor should you feel offended by it, else your blood will boil everytime u try to sell something - that's just the way i look at it.



there are some buyers i encountered where we have already agreed on a discounted price, then later try to ask for further discount! :roll: :roll: i really dunno what to say.



i think almost everyone has the "no-harm-asking" mentality.

buying watches is no different.

I have done numerous deal on other forums before

be it buyer or seller



IMO, i think its perfectly fine if the buyer/seller offer prices although the TS has stated firm price or non negotiable.

They are just trying their luck to get the item at their preferred price, and on the other hand, I think as a seller I welcome that offer as if no one offers me the price that I want, at least I know of interested buyers I can try my luck at.



However, if the price is agreed and we have decided to meet, I think it will be wrong to ask for any discount.

UNLESS the item deviates or have some defects/scratches not revealed/shown on the online post.



Basically, haggling online is okay, but on the spot haggling is not right if the price has been agreed IMO.

Low ballers are not too bad, I have encountered a rude low baller who offered 100 for my brand new sumo and when I replied that please do simple market price check before making such offers... the answer I got was screw u, u think u selling AP, PP, JLC is it?! buyer still need to do research?! it's just a few hundred dollars Seiko! now these are the ones that piss me off..

I ever encountered this buyer online. I posted my sumo for sale, he posted his 1st gen monster. Interested to get a monster and he is open to trade. I pm to ask if he is interested. He said he dun mind trading, so I asked him how would the trade be like, what is the cash involved. His reply was none, since I approached him for a trade. :mad:

Buy watches still can ask for discounts to account for servicing cost. If so worried about servicing, might as well buy a quartz watch. Imagine if you sell rolex, still need to give additional 1k discounts to factor in the servicing charges if needed?
