Grand seiko Boy size

Grand seiko Boy size
I am looking to buy a grand seiko for my wife. As I feel that any size bigger then 38 is too large for ladies (petite) so I am looking at boy size. I do know that there are ladies GS but local shop don't bring in.

I was at Vivo and saw this 2 GS that I found very nice.

1) SBGR 053

2) SBGX 097

I am rather leaning toward the quartz model as it is much thinner and fuss free (think ladies) and with the leather strap, it just sing to me.

As for the automatic model, I would say it has all the trademark of a GS. But for a ladies, it feels too thick and heavy. If I buy this, I would change the bracket to strap.

So my question is the quartz model worth my right kidney? How are the quartz model?

I am also thinking of getting the SBGW 047 so that I can share it with my wife.

Any advice?

If the date function is not important I think the SBGX009 is a nice choice but im not sure if TS has it .

I would suggest getting from the few well know japanese sellers that sell overseas since GS comes with international warranty if im not wrong.
Re: Grand seiko Boy size
Forgive me for saying this but as this is going to be for your wife, shouldn't her preference be the paramount consideration? Does she know watches? If she does, then a mechanical piece is the way to go. If not, then you may be better off going for a piece with greater brand regconition amongst her peers, ie the usual suspects like Rolex, Omega etc.

The 047 is a very good choice, if you can still find it new.

As for quartz, the GS are the ultimate. IMHO of course.

Happy hunting.
Re: Grand seiko Boy size
I did ask my wife for her preference and Rolex, omega is not what she likes. Too overly advertised and too common. I have bought her a few watches, mostly seiko but never a GS. And she seem to like them all.

Of cause I will bring her down to the shop to choose her preferred design but I need to know is quartz a good buy for the price I am paying. Or should I stick to the mechanical.

Thanks

I like the 47 too and I am hunting for one now.
Re: Grand seiko Boy size
The 9F movements are probably one of the best quartz movements out there but personally I would rather go with a mechanical, very hard for me to justify spending that amount on a quartz.

I would personnally stick to mechanical for that price but like what I posted earlier, the GS quartz is the ultimate in quartz movements IMHO.

Happy Hunting.

Totally agree on this one. IMHO, no matter how good a quartz is but quartz is quartz, meaning - batteries!

Mechanical for me.

Cheers.
Re: Grand seiko Boy size
Here's mine. Shipped from Japan, only 1 from that shop.

Re: Grand seiko Boy size
It is strange that we acknowledge that the seiko quartz is one of the best in the market but refuse to buy one. Is this a case of kiasuism? What about a Tag or a IWC with ETA movemen? Is it more desirable?

Then again, I too feel that I can't get myself to buy a quartz GS. Sad case :(
Re: Grand seiko Boy size
Reason we don't buy GS quartz (at least for poor man like me) is because we don't have unlimited $$$. If I do, I'll not just buy a GS quartz, I'd buy me a Credor Minute Repeater! :P

Re: Grand seiko Boy size
It has nothing to do with brand but rather because its a quartz. Maybe all that marketing has gone into my head but I find that quartz lacks "soul", it ticks on and on even if we leave it alone for long periods of time. Whereas a mechanical only comes alive through interaction with the wearer's movement or effort to wind it
Re: Grand seiko Boy size
Nothing to do with kiasuism. In fact if kiasu should buy everything just in case mah... :D

I just think that for that kind of money, I would wanna pay more for the craftsmanship that gies into making a mechanical piece. The complex machine that goes ticking in the heart of our fav watches certainly have soul which a quartz lacks. But we are also in love with precision time keeping, maybe tgats why Spring Drives are such a tantalising alternative.
Re: Grand seiko Boy size
Right, my quest for the quartz GS ends as I have just bought a Orient (with bit of soul in it) for my wife. With the huge saving, I have put an order for the 047! Let's hope it comes else it will be the 081.

Maybe just maybe, I might have the courage to go for the quartz in the future.

Where you placed an order for 047?
Re: Grand seiko Boy size
Oh, I just asks friends in Japan to find one for me.

And guess what, got one. After exchange rate it is about $5.5k

Should I pull the trigger? I think I will :)
Re: Grand seiko Boy size
Good for you! To paraphrase bros here.. MTL get it!

Hope to see some pics soon.

Cheers.
Re: Grand seiko Boy size
Buying mechanical movement is the best. But for ladies, sometimes they dun wear that often causing the movement to stop. And if they are not technically train, they may go adjust the date at the wrong time or strip the screw down crown. So you will have to adjust for them.

Do not under estimate the ladies. in any case, one of the joy of our hobby is to handle the watch, so setting the time and date for the ladies is never a chore.

If concerned with screw down crown, just buy one that does nor need to crew down. :)

Btw, there are bros who also cock up the watch, ie setting date inappropriately or stripping the crown threads, so cock ups no the private province of our fairer sex. I must say I have my fair share of "mishandling" as well.

Enjoy.
Re: Grand seiko Boy size
Just wondering, how much is GS quartz going for locally?

dun get me wrong sis. because in my knowledge not alot of ladies are interested or keen into watch collecting. so they may not have search forums on technical aspects of mechanical movements, of course there some who are really into watch collecting. quite alot who have mechanical watches bought them as fashion accessories.
