for the longest time, I've been buying nothing but dive watches, with a sudden love for rolex explorers, I wanna get a similar watch...





I'm gunning for the explorer mod, I know wat dials and where to get, but first and foremost, I want to find a dome plexi. Anyone here knows where I can get one in Singapore?

I have gotten merced hands from dagaz and should be on the way. The dial I will be keeping intact to retain the GS looks (SBGR019). I am still looking for a cheap oyster bracelet to switch though.

done and done, i messed up the dial with scratch marks and finger prints trying (and failing) to make the lume more yellowish and vintage-y by dipping it in coffee. the dial and hands arrived, but c3 being c3 is abit too greenish.



anyways, a normal change over job for mr goh ended up with him spending some time to clean up the scars of my amateur attempt.



was unable to fit a plexi over the watch, sad max...but the hardlex is more functional for the time being I guess.

Nice explorer look a like, I am thinking of doing something similar too, what's the base seiko model that you used?

The alpha watch is cheaper definitely, but there is always the fun of modding.

His base watch is a SNX123 i think. (similar to the WUS link above)

Think the only real issue was finding the right size of plexi for our watches.



I used a SNKM57 model, and changed everything cept the dial. Wanted more of a hybrid look :lol:

the basewatch is snx123...its works out to be the same...i guess it be down to personal preference, ppl will think homage = fake...so doesnt matter, anything with merc hands n not rolex = fake...

It's a fine line to walk, if I buy a Seiko to mod or just get the alpha explorer or if I can stomach a smaller case get a sandoz explorer, it will be my first homage watch...I feel add long as they don't slap Rolex on the dial it's not a fake?

tis watch the lume is nice..the hands match the dial, mine not so much...but at least the dial is lighter.

If base watch can get cheap, less than 300. Mine was around 230 I think? Base was ex and I swapped to oyster bracelet.



Btw regarding homages, I think it boils down to the wear on how he can stomach it. To me, the line is quite clear as long as no original branding or some cheap clone movement inside. Must have enough on its own to stand as a homage lor.

mr goh's to mod $20 (handsome price)

total about 210 give or take..

Where did you purchase the base snx123?



For parts I saw the expedition dial for 7s26 3 o clock crown dial and c3 Mercedes hand set for 61USD on dagaz

the snx123 abit hard to find..bencoolen got tis shop got sell for $105..there alot of models. the shop name i forget, its run by an old couple at the corner, away from win's



for buying the base watch for explorers need to ownself see, make sure the lugs are correct, the bracelet is oyster bracelet if u have no plans to buy one urself like bro pokefan..cos i have seen, same watch head, different bracelet..make sure u get the hands at 3:00 o'clock one..otherwise make liao will feel abit weird..



i must warn u ppl hor, the picture see liao chio chio, make sure u r ok with the case back...the case back sticks out awkwardly, when u wear on your wrist, it feels like the whole watch head is lifted from your wrist, I have come to grips with it, i do not find it an eyesore anymore, but better wear it out to see if you like it...

oh ya, for all you lume heads out there, this dial from jake is not one of his best lumed watch in terms of brightness..it is perfectly visible but it is not bright enough for phone camera to take (which is my bench mark).

The case back on the snx123 is the standard display back from Seiko right? Yah agree that should use base model with crown at 3 and with the explorer like bezel.

Yup it's the standard clear back. Tamp bus interchange got 1 watch shop with a few seiko 5 models inside. $9x only if not wrong lol can check out. Base watch I think no need be exact but as long as the dimensions fit can already.

ya since the example in this thread used the snx123 and the dials and hand set from dagaz, to play safe i just stick to the same base watch lor...think i will be happier modding a seiko 5 than buying the alpha....

Oh ya...must take note arh...the dial minute markers r smaller than the hands..completely opposite problem as the 39 mm explorer...



In short hands length is proportionate to the case but it is the dial tat is kinda small
