Boxy watch winder good? Too many automatics with screw down crown which I hate having to unscrew to wind or adjust time regularly...thinking of picking up a boxy to try?

No problem after 1.5years of used. Very quiet.



Before this was using a 2 slots, bought in China winder which don't tell you the TPD and noisy after 3 months of used.



With many automatic watches, u should get one with more slots. 8-)



I use it more for "testing" the watches I bought second hand.

Now trying to find out if winders like Boxy (which i like) will magnetize watches, read in forums that it can happen with winders without shielding for the motor..scary sia....any one that use the more budget friendly winders like Boxy, Navale etc encounter the problem of their watch being magnetized?

Dont have enough wrists between the wife and me, and the few that i wear often are all divers with screw down crown... i hate to screw-unscrew all the time to set time or wind......just feel that it is causing unnecessary wear and tear on the threads?

Alamak, relax lah.So stressful. Enjoy the hobby. Crown screw & unscrew is normal. Cannot Ai Pi, Ai Ci & Tua Liap Ni, Don't work one friend! There will always be a flip side. Hate to unscrew other option is also to have 1 watch, confirm no need to play crowns nor buy winder. :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol:

My used boxy brick watch winder and year of the horse bearista hoot....



Set it to the lowest setting 675 TPD, auto bi-direction..should be enough for the ETA 2893-2 right?:D

Mine broke down after 2 years and a bit more. Not repairable. The lady in JW told me that the Boxy design is "disposable concept". If it's spoiled, just dump it and buy a new one...

u can go to Orbita website and check their data base for recommended turns per day and direction of turn. Enjoy.

Unless you are wearing a watch with a lot of complications which is difficult to adjust every time... else I don't see a point of having a winder that introduce wear & tear to the movement.

That is one of the arguments against winders. Personally, I agree that if you have a perpetual calendar or other complicated hard to adjust watches then a winder is mandatory.



But I can also see the usefulness if you have say 3 or 4 watches that you want to rotate every now then to keep them wound up. You still need to adjust now and then if you are an accuracy freak (afterall our babies lose or gain over time) but at least the date is in sync! :D



As for wear and tear, I take it as part of the game in having watches as a hobby/love. Of course I know people who buy and just keep and never wear or run the time piece. This is not perculiar to us but car people do that too... Buy expensive rare cars and keep in garage only..



Just do what ticks your boxes.

I have kept my most oft worn automatics running using the winder and wearing on and off, appears that they have become more accurate? For example my u2 which was at +6 to +8s a day is now steady at +3 to +4s a day....not having to unscrew the crown to wind or adjust time regularly is bliss..

I agree as pieces usually run at optimum spec when wound up. But from experience not fully wound all the time. I find best to turn for 3 hours then rest for 9. I let the resting position be determined randomly by winder.



I also find it a joy to be able to pick up a piece and see the lovely complex machine ticking away inside anytime I want. (Those with display backs and open hearts of course, can see nothing usually for divers though :D )



I stress that this in my experience and my preference. So mileage differs from piece to piece and person to person.

Actually quite a few places got sell...amongst them is JW but no stock now, All watches also got sell, some small wacth shop in city square mall, novena square and katong I12 also got sell..but their price is high.



Ultimately I gave up on boxy winders and bought a 2 motor - 4 watch winder plus 6 watch storage solution from some unknown brand called Orient Crown. So far not bad, many TPD settings available for less than $200.

May I ask where did you manage to get your winder. For the boxy winders the prices xan go up to 188 per box. Not cheap.

Yeah I could not find boxy winders at good price and my new place also no place to stack boxy winders. So bought the 2 motor 4 watch winder. U can google orient crown watch winder. So far quite okay for the model I bought.
