I personally feel it won't be a threat. It will be a new category bringing along new functions and perpectives. The reason why you buy or collect watches will still remain the same for most of us whether there are smart watches.

To us... the diehards of old tech time telling tools, it won't be a thread.

But to the newer generations, smart watches will be the coolest toys out there to show off the capabilities that old techs can't do. And the price... sooner or later will come to the level where certain numbers of CASIOs maybe.

So what does everyone think about all these new smart watch? Especially now that Apple has announced their version. Any one here abandoning their Seikos and other traditional watch?

Traditional watch will still be around for a certain period... and perhaps won't die. But I think most likely the price on traditional watches will be getting more and more expensive as production volume drops due to growing popularity of the electronic smartwatches that can do numbers of tasks than just telling time. With wireless communication, one doesn't need to go thru the hassle in adjusting the moonphase, or any other complications such as correct dates. Just a simple touch on the screen, or click on the side button to connect thru wifi or even GPS, everything updates in a couple of seconds. GMT hands adjustment will be a thing of the past by then, when you travel elsewhere... the respective time zone update by simply touching on the smartwatch glass or side button clicking will put SEIKO ASTRON look like a monster of the past...



For the moment, most of the smartwatches besides telling time, also display notifications. In the next 5yr time, we may perhaps see a much better smartwatch that let people talks and do TTT(talk to text) like our phones that currently do...

I think someone has said before that such gadgets do not occupy the same space as mechanical watches or even digital ones.



So , the short anwser is No.



But I may get one if it totally replaces the handphone. To wear on my right hand of course... :lol:

I just spoke to one of my company's I.T. staff who's wearing a PEBBLE, just before i walk out of office earlier... We were talking about the smartwatches, and like me, he also fell on the Moto 360, also on the sleek looks. Unfortunately, both of us were also turned down by the sorry specs in battery reserve per charge. His PEBBLE can get more than 10days of energy to work with daily turn off during sleeping hours, stays connected to his Samsung phone via BT for about 14hrs per day. To me... This is very IMPRESSIVE liaoz!

Planning to hoot the KAIROS with SOPROD under the hood. But need to feel on the physical piece from another member of another forum to confirm. Theirs are Miyota based.
