GST for importing watches ?

GST for importing watches ?
Those of you who have ordered from Chino , Huguchi or other sellers outside Singapore. Do you have to pay for GST when seller declares the value in YEN of above Yen32,500 ( aprox SG$400 and above ) ? I understand customs will ask for 7% GST if imported item is above SG$400. Just wondering if customs actually checks the SG$ value of the item when it is declared in YEN by the seller.

Yen, Eur, Usd .. doesnt matter. Was still asked to pay GST.

for me it was very strange, i ordered about 1.8k plus from higuchi, but didn't have to pay GST, then i ordered a sumo from higuchi again and this time i had to pay GST.... Makes no sense to me, cos i looked at the declaration, Higuchi declared almost full value both times..

Kenna tax or not... is sometime dependent on how on the delivery forwarders handle your package during the processing stage.

I had ordered numbers... err... perhaps more than 10 different models in 10 plus different shipments from Germany... one thing i can confirm, with Express freight companies like DHL, FEDEX, or UPS, sure tio tax. But when it comes thru other channels, sometime you don't get taxed.



So it all depends on how the final end here handles your stuff.

Huh? U paid the postman? Not at the post office or Customs web or axs?



I have yet to buy anything that attracts GST from the web, so this information is new to me.

I'm also surprised.

The GST I previously kenna needs to be settle @ Post Office. Postman don't collect ley...

If the taxed about hv couples of cents, how? We go dig around the house for those small cents?



Did you verify back with P.O. on the receipt of the tax?

$5 is what the postman or speed post charged for paying the GST on your behalf. I suppose it's the same as FedEx charged $10. I termed it "convenience fee" or admin fee.

I paid to the speedpost courier as well but I didn't note any fees though.

is there a choice in this? I mean I can go down to the post office or whatever to pay. So do they give you a choice? I mean if one is busy, one can avail himself to the service and pay the fee but if not?



Also there should be a bill to itemise this service fee.



It would also seem that this is not the same situation faced by all bros.



Maybe should ask Sing Post or Customs on their policy.

The 5 dollar is the service charge for helping pay the GST upfront to ICA. So no options, die die must pay.

Wah like that pay lahgi more than 7% liao. Especially for amounts just over the minimum gst limit.

So must buy big ticket item to justify the charge.. the spirit of Ah Q lives.. :lol:

[color=#00BF00]The item was shipped via EMS. So when the postman arrived, he came to the door and requested the GST.



There was a form with the Japanese Yen conversion to SIN dollars and the tax payable.



After paying the amount, (It was about S$10), I had to sign the copy. I kept one and the postman retained one.

I think there's different collection, my own experience.



Normal post or speed post: Receive mailer, go down SingPost main office, ICA counter pay tax and collect item.

Fedex/DHL: Deliver straight, receive separate mailer days later for an invoice, pay online or by cheque

EMS: so far haven't tio GST, touch wood but they are all pre-owned, lousy packed boxes.

I kana GST for my Japan packages with EMS. Collected by Singpost, can be at the branch where the parcel is sent to after mis deliver or pay on spot to the postman, got receipt one so no worries that it is being makan.

Your EMS is new watches lar...



I think new purchases, the seller always pack an nice invoice, so I think those attract the taxman interest... but when I buy pre-owned, the thing is usually pack unprofessionally without any invoice, so they don't pay much attention...

I paid my gst direct to the postman who delivered to my place for my recent purchase.
