Any recommendation for a pair of running shoe?
I know it's subjective but any recommendation?



I prefer Asics myself but am open to other brands.



Looking for a pair for running.

Asics or Mizuno. Buy from Queensway.



Both Brooks and New Balance are too heavy in my opinion. Also, they were/are SAF issued running shoes. Make us look like recruits again.

i might pick up jogging again hence requires a pair of shoe, for 10km & 21km distance, can't be too heavy as well

I swear by New Balance's 1080V2. Got flat feet & that model's got killer great heel support, which is awesome cushion for me.



They've got wide toes option too. Perfect for freaky feet like mine.

Depends on the type of feet and how you run. I am using NB as well. Btw was at IMM and the 1080v2 is going for less than 100.

Walao... I better siam Asics then. Anyway, I am wearing Kayano 17 & 18 now (I rotate between them). I used to swear by Mizuno but it seems like their QC has dropped. My last pair lasted me less than 6 months before the Wave plates started to creak. Damn annoying sia.



I have passed both Brooks and New Balance totally. I do agree that New Balance shoes offer very good support but I find them a bit too heavy. Brooks' rubber soles are like Nike's, not lasting. They go botak within 3 months.

Another great running shoes is Saucony Jazz. Good cushioning and support. Lightweight too. Considered to be one of the all-time favorite classic running shoes by Runners' World magazine.

Try getting a feel of what you like first. Mizuno and new balance retail outlets has treadmills for you to try the shoes and gauge your running style. Once you determine your running style, it will be easier to pick the shoes as the range will be narrowed down to a few choices.

I noe u wearing King's shoe, sole is durable for 200km, no prob de,haha

Newton shoes are excellent for off-road, cross-country and rubberized track. But for road or cement track running (most common terrains in Singapore), they may cause injuries to the muscles and joints due to inadequate cushioning and support. I personally have seen a few of my running friends ended up in Sports Medicine offices because of Newton shoes. One of them has to take long-term pain medication even. Also, their soles are among some of the least durable in the market.

All major brands of shoemaker are good, most important is finding the right shoe for your feet.

Features like, thickness of cushion, weight, arch type, are all important when buying a pair of running shoe.


If I remember correctly puma had a catalog that charts their running shoe models with amount of arch support and also details which kind of pronation it is designed for.

Mizuno Wave Rider, Asics DS Trainer and Saucony Triumph work best for me after going through many models over the years. If you feel like running light, I recommend Saucony Kinvara.

I am not sure about Newton. Nimbus is not bad, but too bulky. Get DS Trainer. You should be happy.with it.

But i land heavy each step so I thought I might be requiring more cushion, tried on Nimbus during lunch & it felt pretty comfy, have yet to try DS Trainer & Newton Gravity yet but Newton shoes are more for forefoot landing it seems.



tried Saucony just now, yes, light & more suited for short distance runs I feel

N***ton is for forefoot landers. Not suitable for people like me, who lands on last three quarter of my foot. I have a friend who die die want to wear this and kenna serious knee cap problem.

in this case, Newton might be my last option.

This is very serious. Knee cap operation is not cheap in Singapore, unless go China.

Not advisable to run barefoot in Singapore, as I often see broken glass and sharp objects on the floor.

I weigh 116kg and a heel striker. I am a heavy pronator (toe out). I have permanent ankle injury sustained during NS (certified by doctors). I walk and jog with Asics Kayano Gel 17 and 18 (I alternate between both shoes) twice a week (trying). I love both Gel Kayanos but prefer 17 more. Other shoes which I have worn and liked were Asics GT-2000 series, Mizuno Wave Nirvana series, Mizuno Wave Creation series, New Balance 500 series and Saucony Stabil CS series.

if wanna get asics, go to their distributor warehouse at genting lane. opens alternate sat. definately cheaper than getting at queensway.



used to be on DS trainer. unless you are running more than 10km each time, else i think kayano is out for you. DS trainer might be more suitable.



do get a feel of the shoes before committing. i once thought asics was the brand for me until i tried adidas and new balance. Currently rotating between adidas feather, and 2 NB minimus..

The reason to go Queensway is so that there are more selections to try and choose from. Actually, if you know the shop well, they will give you further discount.



And after buying our shoes, we can go Sterling Road food centre for a famous chicken rice feast. Bear in mind the stall closes on Mondays.

I wear size 13. Sales hardly stock my size. Even shops at Queensway only carry size 13 for selected models (usually top-end range). Probably to sell to ang mohs.

For Gravity, its really a pair focused for forefoot runners, Energy is like more like a transitional model if one is thinking to switch frm heel strike to forefoot, the lugs are shallower.



Not really sure if forefoot is my method.



Will go try asics ds trainer before i make a decision.

if you have the time, do try out the ds trainer before heading down to genting lane. not sure how much e price disc now, but when i bought my ds 15 n 16 its abt $40 to $60 difference.

I also eat full no shit put, went to those stores you mentioned. Don't have size 13 leh. Largest size they have is either 11.5 or 12. Even their size 12 seems smaller than normal. Why I know? Because certain brands of size 12, New Balance for example, will fit me.
