No requirement, just simple watch tools, a pair of steady hands and lots of patience. Both Seiko 7S26 and 7S25 are basically the same mechanism-wise. The only difference is the latter doesn't have a day dial.
By the way, we are not going that deep because it requires special tools to remove the hands. Also, you must know what you are doing to go that deep into a mechanical watch.

No need. I will bring the movement and tools. By the way, please don't spend money buying watch tools. They are extremely expensive and overpriced in Singapore. I will advise all of you what to buy and where to buy.

No timing machine required but if you wish to purchase a set, I can advise you where to order one. Tool-wise, I suggest you hold back first. These watch tools are overpriced locally.

- presto hands remover
- hands setter (hr, min, sec)
All cheap cheap made in china ones :lol:

3) Hanis Cafe outside of NLB @ Bugis
However these few places sometimes got ppl studying, so if too loud later like pai sei.
Also the availability of seats can be quite limited at certain timings.
Orchard side never been able to find a good quiet place so far.
Perhaps some bros might know some other nice places.

Be careful when using a China-made hands remover. They WILL scratch the watch face if not careful. Better to buy Bergeon ones. Use a face protector if you insist on using Chinese hands remover. Only $6 a piece to protect your investment.
When working with watches, a 10x loupe is too strong. I suggest using either 4x or 6x magnification.

Don't buy any watch tools unless you already have some. Buying watch tools is an expensive and continuous process (yes, non-stop). There is a tool for virtually every part of a watch. Worst of all, using cheap watch tools can damage your hard-earn investment.
By the way, you don't have to bring anything during the workshop. I will use my own tools and movement to demo.

Yes. I've learnt a few lessons on practice watches (I've snapped a couple of hands before). I do use a face protector now.
As you mentioned, watch tools are expensive and I don't tinker enough to justify investing in more expensive tools at the moment.
I've completed a few mods and that's it, but it's all superficial, change hands, dial, etc. nothing too technical into the movt. My technique is definitely all wrong.
So I'm really looking forward to learning. I hope the timing works out well.

It looks like you already got some hands-on experience. I don't know if this workshop suits you. Just very basic information on watch regulating and maintenance.

I don't sell watch tools but I can guide all of you to which necessary tools to have. Sometimes, I just don't understand why people are willing to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars on a painting but refuse to spend a good few dollars to buy a proper, solid hook to secure the artwork.
Using the wrong tools to work on a watch is like using a wall nail to hang the Mona Lisa painting.

A decent case opener will set you back at least a hundred dollars but it can still damage the watch case if not careful.

I am not so young myself either. In the 40s liao. My eyes also not as good as they used to be.
By the way folks, I think I shall look for a small classroom or meeting room at a community centre.

Anybody knows the management of a CC or RC so that we can use their classroom/meeting room? For a Saturday evening. Just 2 hours will do.Maybe I should outline the topics we will be covering:
1. Introduction to watch regulation and types of watch tool
2. How to regulate a watch without a timing machine - (I think most people already know what to do but I will cover it anyway)
3. Things to look out for when opening a watch case
4. Removing the movement from the watch case
5. Replacing the rubber gasket and waterproofing
6. Cleaning and oiling - watch internal
7. Care and maintenance - watch external
8. Q and A
My intention is NOT to go deep into the mechanical aspects of a watch. This requires a trained horologist, such as Mr Wong of JW and the Goh brothers. If a watch problem is too complex, you will still have to go to them. I will do the same. Please don't be stingy.

I am still looking around for a suitable location. Other than public libraries, it seems like a quiet, brightly-lit and free public place is very rare in Singapore now.

The public bookings for Classrooms in CCs seems to be quite ex.The only 1 i found more decent would be the Multi-Purpose room in Queenstown Library.
10 pax seating enclosed room with soundproofing. The conference table should have enough space for us to work on the topics.
Its $20/hr and $54 for 3, avaliable from 9am - 830pm for Sat.
I'm sure the bros interested wouldn't mind spliting the cost for the room to make this happen.
That being said, you mentioned earlier of not wanting public libraries.
So, perhaps some bros here can hook us up with a better(and free) place to go..... :roll:

I am okay with public libraries as long as we can talk loudly. I don't want people to complain and we kenna chase out of the place. By the way, public libraries are closed on Saturday evenings and Sundays.

I am game to share the cost. I totally understand what you mean by public library. The room suggested by bro pokefan should be workable since ot is sound proof.
Otyer thing we may need to consider is whether the rules allow for such hands on work shops. If they do, then I say game on.
Btw I believe some libraries do open late and on weekends nowadays.

and Chinese New Year
Closed on Public Holidays
In this case, we may do a Saturday session from 6:30pm to 8:30pm. I am not so sure about the room rates. In December, these rooms could be vacant as it is school holidays.
Date-wise, we can fix either on December 7th, 14th, 21st or 28th. I prefer Saturday evening because Sundays are my family days.
Can somebody volunteer himself to be in-charge of the room? Inquire if we can talk with reasonable volume inside these rooms. Please don't mention that we are conducting a workshop (usually workshop means profit-making to them). Just say we are having a group discussion.

Well, I think people must agree to pay a small fee for using the room. Otherwise, it is still no-go. I am okay with the date line-up but I can only do one Saturday evening. I will try to keep the group as small as possible. This is a public service to the brothers at Seikoclubsg. I don't make a single cent from this.

Are you flexible on location, as bro pokefan did say queenstown library can get a room for 54 bucks over 3 hours. Group kept to 8 excluding you, each need to pay less 6.75.should be ok bah.
Personally, I have no objections to share cost.

I don't drive, so I have to carry my barang barang taking public transport. Queenstown is out of the way for me. By the way, does Queenstown Library opens late on Saturdays?
Also, we don't need 3 hours for this workshop. If we don't stay throughout the duration, it is money wasted and I strongly object to this.

Folks,The logistics of this workshop are more challenging than I thought. Let's KIV. I think we need a better plan so that people don't have to pay anything (my objective is for a sharing session rather than a formal workshop). I will hold onto the idea until something better comes up. Who knows a kind brother may be able to let us use his meeting room for free. ;)
Nonetheless, I am very glad to see there are so many of you who are keen. Mechanical watch servicing is a dying trade not only in Singapore but in other parts of the world too. We probably have less than 50 horologists left locally. There are less than 10 formally trained and fully-qualified ones (most of them charge exorbitant prices). There are only a handful of good ones and most of them are becoming older every year. Their hands are not as steady as before and they may not have the energy to service watches anymore. Therefore, I am happy to see so many brothers are so keen to keep the spirit alive.
I will always be here to help our brothers, so let's keep this thread up and running.

Why not we do it this way... I went to the Queenstown Public Library website and saw the rental is $20 an hour for a 10-seat meeting room.I don't know if you guys are willing to pay $20 x 2 hours = $40/9 = about $4.50 per person. I have decided to accept 9 so that people pay less.
Date-wise, we can do either on Saturday, December 14th or 28th. You guys decide. I can't make it on the 7th and 21st December, sorry. Time-wise, let's do it from 7pm to 9pm.
Okay, now transportation. I live in AMK. I do have a few barang barang to bring along. The largest item is a desk lamp which I need to work on the watch. I don't think I will bring a timing machine. Too bulky. I don't drive, so it will be great if someone who drive can pick me up at, say, near a MRT station or bus interchange.
Now, I do have an alternate location in mind. I know Queenstown is out of the way for many folks, myself included. I remember there is a Ya Kun Coffeeshop on the 2nd floor of 100AM at Tanjong Pagar. The coffeshop is very quiet on weekend evenings (they open until 10pm). I can conduct the workshop there. All of us just have to buy some drinks. Now comes the tricky part... The place is a bit dim. I don't know if they will let us use their power outlet for a desk lamp. I think if we ask them nicely, they will probably let us. Let's see how.

I need time to setup and pack up. About 15 minutes before and after will do. The library staff will start chasing us around 8:15 - 8:20 pm. So, I think we ought to start a bit earlier.
