Polishing out minor scratches
Hmm just noticed that i've put one shallow but long scratch on my polished (shiny) lug, on the side facing out of my seiko solar diver chrono. I can accept and ignore scratches on the inside of the lugs, but this one scratch is drawing my eye to it... :roll:



Will using a cape cod polishing cloth and polishing it in one direction help to hide or "remove" the scratch? cape cod is for polished stainless steel surfaces right? Anyone got experience with using cape cod?

I've used capecod before. You will have to polish for a long time before you get to see results man.

But yeah it works.

I also got some scratch on the outer side of the lugs, but for me it's okay. If it annoys you just go ahead and polish it, good luck :)

Takes abit of elbow grease for cape cod to work but it does the job well on polished surfaces.

okay man will go pick up a cape cod polishing cloth today and work on it, polish in one direction and not multiple direction or circular motion right?

I just did mine with one direction and it worked fine. I find circular motion difficult to do because of the small size of the watch.

Mostly this is preference, others liked a clean and spanky shinny watch. Others like to keep those marks are remembrance or what they call battle scars.

But over polishing may also not be good because you are sort of scrapping the metal.

Yes polishing in one direction would give you a better result.

It worked on 2 of my watches, polished off all the fine fine scratches as well and really made them uber shiny..like just returned from a service. But it smelt wierd and turned my fingers black...



Oh sadly a slightly deep scratch on one of my decade old pieces could not be polished off, just made if a little less obvious.

khatena, jw, lth, watchwerkz all carry them.



some ppl sell in on other 2 forums from time to time



othe than this, there's a scratch pen, u can try, google them, u shall know

Yes only for polished surfaces, it must be kept away from brushed/matt surface and also the crystal of your watch.

There was a time that I polished the clasp of my Tudor Monte Carlo a few months back, it was brushed finish and I polished it.

Can you imagine my horror? Hahaha!



How did i fix it?



WARNING!

This is not for the faint of heart



Well, I bought the finest 3M Scotch Bright from NTUC and brushed the clasp in one direction until it looks brushed again.

Voilà! After a few attempts, it worked.

Again, not recommended, only if you are up for it. ^^
