Re: WRUW 17 Oct 2013
A friend sent this Accutron to me as the hour and minute hands not keeping time with the second hand still working.. intermittently today I have had it working as it should.. research suggests it is a known problem with the 218 series and that it is due to parts being 'gummed' up by old oil.. so off for a service once I can find out where to send it..

Caseback markings date the watch to 1968 production and the booklet shows it was bought in Suva in January 1970..

In the meantime, I took the plunge and removed the hands and dial.. lifted out the hour wheel.. checked for debris and put back together again..

Either way the sweep of the second hand is a joy to behold and the watch has a wonderful humming sound when put to the ear..

Cheers

That's a cool looking piece. The dial is sort of a sunburst grey?
