Replacing Tuna Shroud
As u guys know the black hard coating on my Golgo 13 tuna shroud has been flaking off despite my babying it, on fact the "disease" has spread and now more shiny Steel is exposed.



Higuchi can get me a replacement shroud for around 8,000 yen, but can anyone here in sg make the swap for me? Any ideas?

On the other hand, Thong sia wants to charge me $90 for sending my tuna to japan to see if seiko will do anything about it...

I think TS should check with Japan on their response to your case for you I dont think it is right for them to ask you to spend money to send over then see what Japan wants to do with your issue.

Personally I would just not bother and write it off. But if you like the watch a lot, then 8000 yen is not much to spend to get the replacement shroud. This would be imho the best way to the issue corrected the fastest and least painful way.

I was under the impression that changing the shroud would notnbe too difficult. I think some bros here can it. Alternatively you can check with K2 Mr. Goh whether he can help to do the exchange.

8000 yen for the shroud is not that expensive. But would it be a batch issue.

Spend $90 ask TS and Seiko to resolve the problem and buy the spare shroud. $100 is not a lot of money to protect your investment.

The shroud should be removable after u unscrew the 3 screws on the size if it follows the standard tuna. Just be care when you unscrew, put a thin film of plastic in btw the screw and allen key to prevent the coating on the screw to peel.

Ya thanks for the input guys, gonna get thong sia to help with sending it back to jp and see what seiko does. Hope they don't charge me for repair as my warranty card is stamped by a AD in jp

Sorry to hear about your Golgo shroud issue.



The 8000 yen is for replacement of the shroud when the watch is in Japan or is it the cost Thong Sia is charging for the shroud alone?



IMO 8000 yen is a very decent price for a tuna shroud, let alone a PVD version. If you can get the replacement shroud, replacing it is quite easy if you have the right sized allen key. Though some have recommended using the screwdriver type of allen key and NOT the right angled versions (better control I guess).



PS : If you can order the shroud alone can you order a spare for me as well? Would love to have a spare golgo shroud. Thanks bro!

Update to my case, went down to thong sia when I could find the time and got them to send my Golgo to japan for seiko to repair the shroud. It's stated on my job request form that it's under warranty, so no idea if seiko japan will charge me.. Keep my fingers crossed..

No idea if it's a one off case for my Golgo or if this will happen to other Golgo tunas as we'll? Thong Sia has updated me that I can expect my Golgo to be back by end December and seiko Japan is treating it as a warrant repair.

Great news. I think the shroud problem may be more widespread as it seems to hit at almost the same spot. I have seen some pics by bro Yeoman & Baden showing similar problem with their Golgo. These are bros who know howto take care if their watches.



I was actually thinking if getting the landmaster golgo but held back because nit sure it the problem also hit this model.

Absolutely will post pic when I get it back. Heh still no idea in what kind of condition I will get it back in. Hopefully I wouldn't find any additional dings or scuff on other areas of the watch ha ha. Kind of lost confidence in watch service centres after I just found out that omega service centre in China actually screwed up one of my omega so bad during a full service that now it requires another full service and a case change to get it working again and they have the cheek to want to charge me $1,700...

Update to my tuna saga...

Finally was told be golgo swim back to Singapore from Japan...my CO was kind enough to pick it up for me as I was stuck on the office....

Was excited to finally get it back after 2 months....but when I turned it over this was what I saw





Compared to before I sent it to Japan:







Guess what's missing?? My limited edition serial number is gone...vanished...poor....like WTF!!



This defeats the whole PURPOSE of buying a limited edition watch with a unique number?!



Really super upset....I know the tuna isn't a high end watch but this is not the way to treat it? Any idea what I should do next guys??

Just go down to TS and clarify with them as to what happened. The watch was picked up and they would probably have asked you to check to see if everything is ok and unfortunately, your CO didn't know and prob just look at the replaced parts etc. But go talk to them. You bang table scold them also you are the only one who gets high blood & prob would not help the situation.

Actually this tuna has already given you alot of history and the journey of this hobby. May not be pleasant but def a lot of stories already. Another POV is that its a keeper with rich history! Just some food for thought. :D

How did they manage to remove the number?!



I would have thought it was a straight forward changing of shroud. This is too much.

Well thong Sia called to apologise, they are also shocked that my serial number is gone. They think seiko Japan swapped out the shroud and case, leaving only my case back and Crystal unchanged. They are communicating with Japan as to what can be done now and will update me...If they can't restore the serial number I want to give them the golgo back and get a refund......:mad:

Just a quick update to this saga...Seiko Japan has confirmed that they can engrave my Golgo's LE number back onto the case..so now i need to send the watch back to TS for them to do the necessary....sigh..bought the Tuna for only about less than 6 months and it only spend about 3 months so far with me.....now going away again for 1-2 months...

just sent off my tuna for the 2nd time, swimming back to japan now to have it's LE number engraved on the new watch case...Thong Sia says the earliest i can expect it back would be after CNY...

Tuna is back from Japan. Re-engraved my limited edition number back onto the case and perhaps polished out the small scratch I put on the crystal? happy ending...thumbs up for thong sia (Mr. Chiam) and Seiko Japan for resolving the issue.

And now after 2 more months to correct their error..wrong LE Number 466/500 engraved





Quite speechless..I must be the most unlucky tuna owner. Got it less than 12 months but it spent 5 months travelling back and forth to Japan and YET THEY CAN STILL MESS IT UP....

Just to update, Seiko Japan has offered to re-case my Tuna AGAIN and then engrave the correct LE number plus extend my warranty for another 6 months.



I've decided however to accept the extended warranty and keep my tuna as is with the wrong LE number. After all my tuna had already been re-cased, it is now pristine with no marks at all and the bezel lines up perfectly..just don't want to go through the hassle and a 2 month wait.



:idea: So any bro here want to own a SPECIAL ONE OF A KIND wrongly engraved by Seiko Japan Super Duper Limited Edition Golgo 13 Tuna? haha

that's what i was concerned about as well, but i do have the Thong Sia service reports as proof and of course email correspondence between Thong Sia and myself. The case back with the battery engravings, tsunami and watch serial number is untouched. They only swapped out the shroud, casing and crystal. So this tuna definately is a genuine golgo 13.

fwah i doubt it man, when i changed the bezel on my solar chrono, they gave me the old bezel to take back..in this case it's an entire watch case.....
