saw the blue one last tuesday at a shop in parkway parade, opp GIANT.Quite a huge watch to me, sumo size maybe.
Price is $6xx before any discount, if there is. :? :? :?

But I read that the lug width is 19mm.. Kinda puts me off for strap options.
Don't really like to squeeze in 20mm straps.

Just curious. How do you startup a kinetic if it,s stopped? By shaking it? I presume handwinding doesn,t work?

Yah its like a auto without handwind function, and i heard it's hard to charge up a kinetic movement, harder than an automatic? but still...it's a really nice looking watch...

Ya,that,s my concern about kinetic. Also, many years ago, i think almost 15 years back, i owned a kinetic. It was my only 1 of 2 watches so it got worn quite regularly so keeping it charged wasn,t such a major issue. But the "bAttery" or whatever stores the charge died after about 5 years. Brought to thong sia to repair and. Costed me 300+ To change the "battery". Quite costly. Didn,t know about k2 then, not sure even k2 can they replace this "battery" even.

I think its the capacitor that is replaced. I believe tge newer ones have changed something that solved this problem.
Come to think of it, will solar watches suffer tge same fate? How is the kenetic different from a spring drive?

Ummm... Kinetic is essentially a quartz, but the battery is replaced by a capacitor which is charged up by a rotor.
Spring Drive is essentially a mechanical movement but escapement is replaced by an electronic regulator. This gives a better control of energy released to the time keeping mechanism.
Something like that...

That's true.
After 2000 the capacitors were replaced by rechargeable LiON battery iirc.
I was just highlighting the diff between kinetic and spring drive as that was the question.

So essentially the way i inderstand it is that the difference should be kenetic and solar are using a quartz movement powered by rechargeable battery but different method of charging, solar vs movement.
Spring drive uses an electronic regulator so it is mechcanical without the tic toc sound.
That sounds about right to you guys?

Should be, as the quartz is fully electronic but with an electronic regulator the spring drive should not be too far off. Still, I am a mechnical snob and feels that the art is still in a fully mechnical movement. My cross to bear.

buy, IMO the black one is nicer, i was looking for a dual time beater a few weeks back and almost bought this; but ultimately did not as it's kinetic...ended up with a sinn u2 instead..
