Good Kang Tao for Orient

Good Kang Tao for Orient
Hi all fellow fanatics,

Today I went shopping at people's park and bencoolen/waterloo area for a dress watch.

I pretty much decided on either the Orient Bambino or Orient Star Classic EL05004W.

Went to SKYWATCHES 1st (Hard time finding if you dont have the unit number as their signboard isn't SKYWATCHES) but they did not have a white bambino for comparison so I took the black 1 and the white/cream dial Star Classic and placed on my wrist and looked in the mirror.Asked the sales person for the best available price for both and range is about 260-ish for the bambino and 660-ish for the OSC. Thanked the sales person for her time and proceeded to bencoolen.

There are alot of cool old vintage watch dealers there with rare finds but at exotic prices. Mostly condition not great (mainly discolouration on dial). Walked past WINS UNITED WATCH PTE LTD and saw they have the white Bambino and was thrilled! Asked the sales person (alot friendlier than SKYWATCHES) and she helped me out even though she had existing customer. Told her it was ok, i can wait for her to finish serving him 1st. She took out both the Bambino and OSC for me to try.

I took very long to compare the 2 (about 30mins-45mins) as I wanna see what's the difference between the 2 apart from size and movement. Don't get me wrong, i always loved big watches and the bambino has a cleaner dial that really is a plus (of course price is at a third of the OSC). I have always loved vintage watches or vintage styling watches for that matter. I was contemplating the Longines Flagship Heritage or Conquest heritage. Tried those on before but it just lacked something. It's affordable , Classy and very beautiful yet i could'nt commit.

The OSC may seem like an overpriced small japanese dress watch with nothing to shout out for.BAM! I could never be so wrong! Place 2 on your palms and the Bambino will look better as it's larger. slap them on your wrist, the class of the OSC instantly oozes out. i also scrutinised the finishing of the 2 watches. both are great pieces with wonderful finish. The thing I noticed about the bambino that i have an issue with is the marker finishing. Not very flushed and it's obvious to me if i take a closer look. That bothers me as i will be the 1 looking at the watch up close not anyone else! the buckle of the Bambino is sort of like laser engraved. I would prefer they just etch the Orient emblem on it as it would look classier than spelling it out. Bambino is a fair bit thinner than the OSC but this is where the OSC stands out on your wrist.

I think i will leave the review of the watches to that as i am sure you guys have read, watched and googled alot on it (don't we all). The main point about this post is about the price. I have no affiliation to the shops mentioned but the pricing of WINS United is amazing. Bambino is going only for $205 and OSC $570 :o Best thing is that they are local/international sets with local/international warranty not pi sets. I immediately plunged on the OSC and is now a happier man.

I am only writing this to share the good deal i have gotten today. I am in no way related to the shops mentioned and it's my first time to both of the shops. If required mods can blank out the names of the shops mentioned.

Peace out. [Sorry for the bad quality picture as using phone cam and very excited till i am trembling]

Re: Good Kang Tao for Orient
Nice review. Enjoy your new watch!
Re: Good Kang Tao for Orient
Congrats.

I am also looking to buy a variant of the OSC. ANd yeap, OSC feels much better than the bambino although I would say to get the bambino also to use as a beater. =p

Re: Good Kang Tao for Orient
totally agree, i've tried both at bencoolen also, Orient Star and Bambino, and much prefer the Orient Star, just feels much better, didn't buy it though, found the price tag a little on the high side and i know nothing at all about Orient movements etc...
Re: Good Kang Tao for Orient
gong xi gong xi!

Re: Good Kang Tao for Orient
The OrientStar Classic is really a good looking watch. Does it come with bracelet?
Re: Good Kang Tao for Orient
Hey Malo,

Yes it does..it's another model with blue hands!

Re: Good Kang Tao for Orient
I think the other variants do come with bracelet i.e. black dial, silver dial with blue hands

Re: Good Kang Tao for Orient
Was at Bencoolen for lunch today so decide to check out the Orient Star Classic at Win United. The OSC looks great but then something caught my eye. something with a bigger dial, took a closer look and the watch that caught my eye is the Orient Star Standard-Date(DV02001W). I was looking at the watch for about 3 mins when I then check out the price tag and it's at above $1k. My mind went blank and wonder how can it's more expensive than the OSC? Decided to quickly get out of Win and head back to the office and try to forget what I saw but I just can't get this watch off my mind the whole day. I guess I learn an important lesson today...

"If you have no intention of getting a watch, never go to a watch shop."

Now how to convince my OC that this watch is worth very cents to get....

This is the watch I'm talking about ..

How much the watch is worth depends on what you think. This depends on yourself. In my opinion, its a great watch. I have seen and tried the actual piece itself although I was wishing the watch to be slightly smaller. That was the only reason I did not get the watch.

Not sure I am using this correctly but like what some members say, like it then MTL.
