What makes you buy from a business (online or physical)

What makes you buy from a business (online or physical)
Well got thinking about purchases and experiences that I have had so far and obviously it depends on the type of watch one is buying or looking at.

personally:

Microbrands without a physical front - Usually pre-ordered via renderings done and reviews from other watch enthusiasts. If I am able to physically see a previous model (even better though it has been rare to come by.) So as these brands don't cost an arm and a leg, if the design is solid and attractive and movement is reliable, I would probably purchase it. taking into consideration the CS aspect and follow up. So far it has been a pretty pleasant experience with Halios, Helson and a couple others.

For the Japanese brands, so far there have been extensive reviews or feedback from fellow SC bros here and have even had a chance to "molest" some of them before buying so the process is pretty brainless with the place that has decent standard service and price is acceptable. Usual places like BT for Orients, K2 for some seiko divers, Mustafa, Bencoolen, twinkle, skywatches etc...

For other swiss brands, really more to see and accompany friends to check out pieces but kinda ends there.

2nd hand watches direct from local or overseas sellers too. This makes it pretty much just price IMO. (You guys agree?)

What about the rest of you? What has your experiences been like? Does it just depend on price? Or Customer Service? Warranty period of watches (which is pretty standard). 8-)
Re: What makes you buy from a business (online or physical)
What makes?

1) rare watches

2) maybe a model that I m lookong for and cant get it locally

3) cheaper to get from overseas maybe after comparing

4) wanna be the 1st to own when the LE model release

5) help bros to buy as they might not have paypal

Of cos, you must prepare to take the risk.

Cheers!

I'm more risk averse. I prefer to fiddle with the item before pulling the trigger.

After sales and the convenience of it is also another factor.

If no shop front i will usually give it a miss.
Re: What makes you buy from a business (online or physical)
For more established brands its more often just a case of who has stock on hand and if the price/warranty terms is acceptable to me.

For the really microbrands it gets tricky because many go kaput/dormant even before your warranty period ends so price has to be exceptionally good and movement should be easily serviceable for me to consider. I tend to avoid the ST-19 chronograph offerings because of its high servicing to purchase price ratio and im not confident of sourcing a drop in replacement movement locally.

How about accessories such as watch straps? Would most members over here but your watch straps online?
Re: What makes you buy from a business (online or physical)
I usually buy my straps online, I would prefer to buy locally but choices are quite limited sadly.

Re: What makes you buy from a business (online or physical)
I think I can count the number of watches I have bought over the counter with 1 hand..

Most of the brand new and vintages watches I bought are micros and online. There rest of the Pre loved pieces are from fellow members here..

Second this. And buying from a brick and mortar establishment usually alleviates the agony of waiting.

Re: What makes you buy from a business (online or physical)
For me I prefer face to face transactions be it from a shop or from personal delivery by online dealer. Most important for me is the entire buying process, whether I 'click' with the seller. If I not happy buying from the seller, I won't buy even if it is cheaper. But if I can 'click' with seller and it is a happy transaction process, I do not mind even if it is slightly more expensive.

Different strokes for different folks.
