Didn't want to post this at any dedicated makes' forums as it will probably be biased.



Just trying to get some general views and info.



My lady jap colleague, recently posted to SG, wants to buy a car. New or used ok but preferrably new, she said. And she's looking at cat A only.



Suggessted the Toyota Auris to her and she said it costs more than a basic golf. so she wants to look for some vfm options.



Any suggestions? Will be going hunting this weekend with her.

My company hv lots of Japanese execs, only those who lived here more than 3yrs are confident to drive in local road wor...

No worries. She was in HKG for a coupla years before. And her position requires her to have a car.

Can't contribute much except to rant a bit as I don't really know what's VFM now... You lose 7K a year just on paper..

actually she is open to options cos she said she has been driving jap cars most of her life. but i mentioned to her that jap brands offer better vfm, imo.



that's why the auris came to mind. her last car in jp was a mitz lancer.



actually at current prices, hard to really say what's vfm anymore, you're right.



I was thinking suzuki swift cos her kids are already quite grown up. but she said a bit too small.

good question. I think I forgot about that cos she mentioned cat A so I was looking at only the 1.6L and below. I think mini and a1 might not be possible cos it's for work and she has to ferry clients. Preferrably a 4 or 5 door.

Ok, here are the short listed brands and / or models she has decided on.



Toyota Vios/ altis

Mazda 6

BMW 316 or 1 series

Honda civic

Subaru impreza

Hyundai

Ford focus



For now she's looking at $180-190k. Thereabouts. Might not need too big a car cos her husband will be getting a company car here.



Btw I told her ford = fix or repair daily. Hahaha

I would get mazda6 for the performance and comfort or hyundai cos I know 1 super bro who can help me if hyundai got prob

Actually I was surprised she out Mazda 6 on the list cis most of the others are smaller cars and the Mazda 6 is the only one in cat b. then she explained that she likes the car and wanna check it out. Hyundai is cis the designs are better looking now.



U have lobang for servicing Hyundai? Good. Will keep that in mind if its the one she picks.

Mine,s nt a normal impreza :p

So i can,t really comment on the impreza except it,s fuel consumption is high and lacks power due to 4wd

Not normal Sti? Wrx? My other colleague commented that his leather seats colour started to fade after a while.

Lol no la. I meant normal impreza fuel consumption is high, compated to altis n civic. M6 i nt sure but m6 design nice :)

You hunting chio bu? Korean makers Kia and Hyundai have really good designs these days. And is she buying or leasing? May actually make sense to lease unless she is planning on migrating her permanently. It's, Toyota, Honda, Nissan for thoughts on vfm. As roo pointed out COE depreciation is 7k per year before adding anything else. So she has got to be prepared to lose $10-15k per year for new car annually.

She's buying cis will be here for a coupla years. At least 3 years based on her contract. And her husband is posted back to Sg. So likely to stay for a while. Yeah depreciation aside, cos of her job, car required.

gave my colleague the short list yesterday and was only able to met her for part 2 of her hunt this afternoon. tried the auris, 316, B classe with her.



Seems like she has surprised me and decided on the auris.



Apparently she tried the impreza, and mazda 6 yesterday on her own.her husband will be getting the mazda 6 so she happy like bird. haha.

The Mazda 6 is a nice relatively inexpensive , but well optioned car "they should be happy with it" .
