Advice sought for Brightz Phoenix

Advice sought for Brightz Phoenix
Anyone have any opinion on the captioned watch?

Saw one at Big time I think SAKG013. Looks nice as I am interested to buy a chronograph.

What about the SRQ013 160th anniversary piece?

would appreciate any inputs.

Thanks.
Re: Advice sought for Brightz Phoenix
Not too sure which model you are refering to but to me the seiko auto chronos are well built, only issue i would be concerned with is servicing options and cost.
Re: Advice sought for Brightz Phoenix
Thanks for the input.

U can go see at Big time the model I am referring to. Black face, gold buttons. Nice.

You are right, price is not that kind to wallet. That's why I seeking opinion from gurus here.

I also see that Seiko always have limited editions. So not really sure whether it is good to have. I know some will say, buy as long as you like it but we need to make choices. At least some of us do.

So please give your opinions. In the end the choice is still mine to make, of course. Thanks again.

agree... plus 1 from me.

As general consumers, we would often be fooled onto the looks of the products. And that's the first thing that happens to most consumers around the world, including me. The next thing will be the price... see if we can afford it or not. Then we would look into what are the packaged gimmicks that come with the price tagged. Looking into detail of what's behind the external look? I've no idea where will that be... but to some, may fall all the way to the back.

Back to the topic. The phoenix looks nice, sexy, classy. But behind the face, although a well engineered movement/engine compared to the european common make, the ETA775x movements that is adopted by most well known labels, including the ultra expensive IWC, is not mass produced. Hence the higher price tag, more complexity in repairing, should parts are need to be replace, good luck to the owner.

To again reiterate what Solanum88 said, the Brightz Phoeniz watches are all fairly high-end in Seiko's model line, and therefore priced as such. There are mainly two separate chrono movement families used, the 6S's and the 8R's. Both of these are made in the higher-end facilities in Japan meaning they will be in the US$2k+ range and, as a point of comparison, the Tag Heuer paid Seiko to use the 6S design as the basis of their newest 1887 caliber - you can easily find how much those will cost.

Given the limited availability of Brightz Phoenix outside Japan (read: extremely), I would doubt even Thong Sia would do it in Singapore, so expect that you will need to ship it back to Japan to service.

The Brightz Phoenix styling itself is a bit... odd. They have oversized crowns, which makes the watch look somewhat imbalanced in photos, but it just works in RL. But, as always, looks are a personal choice. I own a SAGK003, similar to the SAGK013 you mentioned except for dial face and the caseback, and am very happy with it. The SAGK013 caseback allows you to see the 8R movement, which is definitely a beauty.

The Brightz Ananta SRQ013 / SAEK015 (130 anniversary model) is a nice watch, and I think one of the older members used to own one; there's some pictures of it on the forum (there we are!). However, my one question about it is why are the main hands on the watch are just too thick, doesn't that obscure the chrono's hands at certain timings?

This piece?

Its a quality piece but its a piece I would rather admire from afar than own one as I prefer a watch I can wear daily without worrying about marks and scratches.

Lacquered bezel and PVD/DLC coating will not do it for me will just look bad dinged up and restoration would probably involve changing the whole case/bezel (Considering this watch would most likely be only servicable in Japan, aint gonna be cheap)

I would prefer this 2 instead, I think they would age nicely even if dinged up and they just remind me of the vintage bullhead chrono in terms of design ;)

Re: Advice sought for Brightz Phoenix

This model Ananta is Retro 8-)
Re: Advice sought for Brightz Phoenix
Thanks for all the replies. Yes the picture posted is the limited edition SRQ013.

There so many limited editions I am just wondering whether they r worth the premium over normal production runs,

The thing that interest me is the particular SRQ013 has a slightly modified movement designated 8s39 instead of the normal run 8s28. Any thoughts onthis?

Cheers.
Re: Advice sought for Brightz Phoenix
I dont think they are worth a premium

"Limited Edition", "Numbered Edition", anniversaries and collaborations are highly abused terms by the watch industry imo

I agree in general , but some of Seiko's Anniversary editions are just that - the 130th ,100th , GS Quartz 20th , Seiko 5 50th , are genuine Anniversary celebration models . .
Re: Advice sought for Brightz Phoenix
The thing is that seiko movement in the sqr013 is listed as 8s39. Is this movement very differeng from the 8s28. Anyone have experience with this movement?

What would be the price range for an automatic chronograph from Seiko if they are not vintage pieces?

This is why I believe that vintage 6138 automatic chronos are still value for money, as it normally costs only a fifth to a tenth of the price of a modern Seiko automatic chrono. But design wise, some may consider it passe. For me, I simply love the understated look.

On many occasions, new limited edition models are produced as a tribute to original vintage pieces.

The 8s39 is an upgraded 8s28

Seiko added the Grand Seiko's technology onto the 8R28 movement by using their SPRON610 mainspring with a MEMS escapement

Theoretically it would be a better movement but im not too sure if any real world difference can be noted.

I like the look of the panda but I find it hard to find one in good condition. It's also hard to to verify if all the parts are correct.

Just a thought, what other models have the 8s39 movement?

That's true bro, but when you land yourself good samples of those, it is well worth the effort. I wear these out sometimes, just to feel shiok that I have them :D

As for the Brightz Phoenix, it is a good watch. But ask yourself what is it about it you like so much that you have to have it. If you can answer that, I say go for it. The only two Brightz's that I am hoping to score one fine day are these:

That's the vintage game. Really good ones are available, and deservedly command really good prices. If you are looking for one the challenge may be less of money, and more of the fact that these rarely change hands through the open market.

If anyone looking for a white dial 23j 6138 Panda, please PM me. I saw one, but I'm not sure if disclosing it here will be in violation of the forum rules.

The Brightz with the black strap and arabic numerals on the left. What model is that? Looks stunning.
Re: Advice sought for Brightz Phoenix
Seiko Brightz Pheonix with 8R28 movement worth every cent that you spent on it.

Column wheel, vertical clutch & 3 hammer instant reset, not other chronograph at this price can offer all these 3.

What i like most is the small minute dial, the minute hand doesn't jump (unlike 7750), it moves slowly along with the second hand in chronograph mode.

the whole watch runs smoothly and quietly.

your wont regret to get any Seiko with this movement.
